Speaking about 30th anniversary Anton Hemantha says, "Selmo was birthed in the midst of trouble times in the history of the Sri Lanka in August 1983. The idea was conceived when neighbour was seeking to obtain inexpensive packing materials for his tea export business and he was trying to help the neighbour through a friend's polybag factory to get the packing for the neighbour. This was never intended as a business start-up. However when more and more orders began to flow in and realised he was making his monthly salary in his job at the time in just one single polybag order and decided to focus on the supply of polybags instead of working for another company. There was no question of turning back from that day. And we then went in to supply the fast growing garment export trade in addition to the tea industry. Today, Selmo is a recognized packing supplier to Sri Lankan industry."

Speaking further, Hemantha said, "Maintaining a venture for three decades, facing the ups and downs within this competitive environment is a great challenge and surviving in it is a victory.''

"During the past 30 years, we added a number of and new product lines. We added the flexible packing line in 1995 with a new production location in Dekatana from where we are able to supply laminates."
