Second Intake for CA Sri Lanka’s BSc. Degree in Applied Accounting commences

The second intake for the Bachelor of Science De g ree i n Ap p l i e d Accounting offered by the Institute of Chartered Accountant­s of Sri Lanka ( CA Sri Lanka) commenced recently.

The BSc. in Applied Accounting which has been approved by the U n ive r s i t y G r a n t s Commission, is open for students with three passes (in any subject stream) at the GCE Advanced Level examinatio­n.

The degree is designed under two stages, namely the general degree programme which will be conducted over a period of three years covering six semesters and or the special degree which will be conducted over a period of four years covering eight semesters.

The primary aim of the degree programme is to create employable graduates with the required skills, competenci­es and industry knowledge to ful- fill a successful accounting career. Upon completion, students will gain extens ive knowledge and required skills in accounting practices, as this is the only degree programme in Sri Lanka that enables students to gain knowledge in the field of ‘Applied Accounting.’

CA Sri Lanka is the only profession­al organizati­on in the country currently offering both a recognised profession­al qualificat­ion in accounting as well as a degree in accounting.

The degree is conducted in English and is designed on the core subject discipline­s of financial accounting, management accounting and financial management. In addition, there are several sub-core discipline­s which are quantitati­ve and management techniques, business economics, informatio­n and communicat­ion technology, management and law. The auxiliary discipline is business commu- nication.

Throughout the curricula, emphasis has been given to the developmen­t of skills and core competenci­es in critical and creative thinking, analytical ability, commitment to lifelong learning, adaptabili­ty to situations, negotiatio­ns, interperso­nal relations and team work, time and stress management, problem- solving skills and leadership skills.

The degree programme is conducted by a fullyfledg­ed faculty comprising of qualified professors, senior lecturers and industry profession­als who are experts in the area.

The inaugural intake received an overwhelmi­ng response from students across the country with straight A students and a high-achieving 16-year old London AL student being among the inaugural batch of CA Sri Lanka’s first ever degree programme which commenced lectures mid this year.
