Minipe PS Chairman hospitalis­ed after attack

Minipe Pradeshiya Sabha Chairman Wasantha Jayasundar­a –a die-hard supporter of the Chief Minister of Central Provincial Council Sarath Ekanayake-- was admitted to the Hasalaka hospital along with two other individual­s following an attack by another faction. Assistant Superinten­dent of Police (ASP) Chamika Premasiri said nine suspects along with two Prado vehicles and a Montero Jeep were taken into custody.

He added the suspects arrested were aides of Anuradha Jayaratne, the son of premier D.M. Jayaratne.

According to ASP Premasiri the suspects were apprehende­d after police set up roadblocks along the road on which they (suspects) were fleeing

The two Prado vehicles were taken into custody by the Hasalaka police, while the Montero Jeep was taken into custody by the Udadumbara police.

Inquiries are being conducted by the Hasalaka police.
