Kalutara MV surprise the rest while defending champs DSS bow out

The completion of the top half category of the 21st Old Wesleyites Sports Club (OWSC) Munchee Invitation School Cricket Sixes in the afternoon played at Campbell Park saw Kalutara MV booking a berth to the final.

The top half teams comprised of Kalutara MV, Joseph Vaz, Thurstan, Nalanda, Raddolouwa MV, Prince of Wales, Kokuvil Hindu Jaffna, St. Peter’s, defending champions DSS, Dharmasoka MV, Mahanama Colombo, St. Sebastian’s and Richmond.

Defending champions DSS had to bow out of the tournament as they were defeated by their victim of last year’s tournament St. Peter’s in a second round encounter.

The two quarter final encounters turned out be a low scoring where Kalutara MV overcame Prince of Wales and Richmond getting the better of last years runner St. Peter’s.

The semi-final clash between Kalutara MV and Richmond was an interestin­g match with the Kalutara boys taking first lease of the wicket making 54 and then they succeeded in restrictin­g the Galle boys to 48.

The second day’s proceeding­s will see the bottom half teams comprising of Lumbni MV, Basilica Ragama, President’ Rajagiriya, Royal Colombo, Gurukula MV, Ananda, St. Joseph’s, De Mazenod, Bandaranay­ake MV Gampaha, Debarawewa MMV, St. Sebastian’s Katuneriya, Royal Panadura, Isipathana and St. Benedict’s battling to book a berth to the final.

The 21st OWSC Munchee Invitation School Cricket Sixes organised by the Old Wesleyites Sports Club is being sponsored by Munchee a brand of Ceylon Biscuits Limited.
