Mahinda’s Sandaru tops the batch

S a n d a ru Th a t h s a r a Balahewa of Mahinda College, Galle, came first with 198 marks in the recent Grade 5 scholarshi­p exam. The Education Times spoke to Sandaru of his achievemen­t.

“I didn’t make the scholarshi­p exam a burden, but made it a point to pass it somehow. I did my schoolwork and my homework well,” Sanduru said, adding that, he was also interested in extracurri­cular activities.

He said that he didn’t spend time watching tele-dramas, but made sure he watched news. “I also read the papers, which my parents encouraged me to do.”

Sandaru’s ambition is to become a surgeon.

Talking of his pupil, Sandaru’s class teacher Dimuthu Lakmali de Silva who has taught himfor two years, said that he was always a very attentive child in class.

Sandaru’s father, Harsha Kumara is a Supplies Manager for a private company in Hambantota, while his mother Kumuduni Wickremaso­oriya is an engineer attached to the Road Developmen­t Authority. Pic D.G.Sugathapal­a
