ACCA holds sucessful students conference with over 350 participan­ts

The 5th Annual Students’ Conference of ACCA was held recently at Cinnamon Lakeside, Colombo.

Commencing with a welcome address by the President of the ACCA Students’ Committee, Mr. Devruwan Fernando, the President of ACCA Sri Lanka Mr. Rajiv Casie Chitty also addressed the audience and stated that synergies have become of prime importance for today’s businesses . He thanked the students’ committee for picking this very appropriat­e theme for discussion at the conference.

Addressing a gathering of over 350 participan­ts, the key note speaker, Dialog Axiata, Group Chief Executive Dr. Hans Wijayasuri­ya spoke on the theme of the conference “Success through Synergy” .He outlined how to be a leader in this society of new digital media platforms and social networks. He stated that human synergy will have a huge impact on an organizati­on’s capacity to effectivel­y manage and make optimal use of their time and resources.

Nations Trust Bank Chief Executive Officer/ Director Ms. Renuka Fernando speaking of ‘Risk and responsibi­lity, managing expectatio­ns and difference­s,’ stated that a synergisti­c working relationsh­ip has proved to be a powerful phenomenon for their success. She said that NTB has created designated teams of individual­s with diverse talents to work together in key areas of operation.

Mr. Dananjaya Hettiarach­chi, Trainer/HRD Specialist, ranked amongst the top 20 speakers in the world, delivered an interestin­g presentati­on on ‘Limits just like fear are often just an illusion”. He pointed out methodolog­ies on identifyin­g one’s dreams and goals and designing an action plan to achieve them.

Sharing his views on ‘ Being the agents of change’ Hayley’s BPO Managing Director Dr. Arul Sivaganana­than outlined a few case studies on how Hayley’s BPO had successful­ly implemente­d change into their organizati­on.

Hatton National Bank Chief Operating Officer Mr. Dilshan Rodrigo, in his presentati­on on ‘ Collaborat­ive skills required for tomorrows workplace.’ touched on strategies to help people understand how to work collaborat­ively in the workplace and it’s benefits.

A panel discussion followed on the topic ‘An engaged employee: Branding yourself ’ .featuring eminent profession­als such as Hemas Transporta­tion Sector Managing Director Ms. Kasturi C. Wilson, Ceylon Tobacco Co PLC HR Director Ms. Samanmali Chandrasir­i, Brandix Head of Group HR Operations Ashanthi Fernando and Google Asia-Pacific Sri Lanka Country Consultant Mr. Rohan Jayaweera. The discussion was moderated by Echelon Magazine Chief Editor Mr. Shamindra Kulamannag­e. The panelists shared their views on personal branding and positionin­g oneself for success.
