Parents who visit HRMI has the opportunity of meeting the Director of the Institute to discuss the options and alternatives HRMI offers their children. A child after Advanced level has multiple professional pathways to pursue. Irrespective of the stream of subjects done at A/ Ls, a child can follow the Edexcel Qualifications, University of London degrees or HRMI professional pathways. The Director Mr Gihan Talgodapitiya who has over 30 years of experience as an Educationalist, Cor p o r ate Trainer and a Management Consultant and retained by over 300 companies, professional institutions and UN agencies in the Asian Region is available to discuss and determine the best options appropriate to the child in terms of his or her strengths and aspirations . Parents and students have open access to the Director to explore the professional pathways and possibilities HRMI offers.

With Edexcel UK, HRMI offers a 2+1 pathway which involves pursuing the Higher National Diploma (HND) during the initial 2 years and completing a Bachelor’s degree in the 3rd year. HND is available in Human Resource Management or in Management or with both these specialities together as a Dual HND. All these HNDs could be followed as a part-time course of studies by attending classes on either Saturday or Sundays. If a child wishes to follow

the HND on a full time basis, classes are conducted on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday in the mornings. The students have a further option of doing the HND in English medium or English-Sinhala mixed medium. HRMI is the only institution in Sri Lanka which offers Edexcel HND in a local language. When it comes to payments, HRMI offers several easy payment schemes which stretch up to 21 instalments for a 24 month HND. The 2+2 pathway is the fast track to a MBA in which students after pursuing the HND during the first two years, directly move to Edexcel Level 7 post graduate diploma programme in the 3rd year and finish-up with a MBA in the 4th year. This is also a cost- effective path as parents can save a minimum of a half a million rupees by circumventing Bachelor’s degree. In an era where a Masters has become a minimum expectation for progression, the 2+2 pathway can be described as a ‘smart’ option where you save both time and money.

If a child is hesitant to embark on a long term HND or degree programme soon after A/ Ls, such children can get a taste of management and HR by enrolling on the Level 1 Certificate in HR programme. With Level 1, students can progress on to Level 2 Executive Certificate and complete the Level 3 Diploma in a relatively short period of 1 year and 8 months. From this route, students can reenter the Degree pathway and enjoy refund of 75% of the fees paid for Level 1. From the Diploma, students have a route to the Masters Degree either with experience or by doing a bridging programme known as the Edexcel Assured Managerial Diploma.

All HRMI courses are linked to Edexcel UK in order to facilitate students to acquire globally recognised HR and Business Management qualifications which will enable them to distinguish themselves in a competitive job market. Thus the choice of internationally recognized courses available at HRMI makes it the ‘centre of excellence for globally recognised HR education’ in Sri Lanka.

The unique feature in HRMI courses of study is the opportunity every student has in undergoing a 6-month internship training attached to a HR Department in a leading company. During these 6 months, students go through a systematic training in many aspects of HR or Management which enables them to relate the learning to real life practices. Besides, this training becomes extremely important in students securing employment as merely following a course is deemed inadequate to secure a job in today’s competitive job market. A large majority of the students secure employment after completing their internship as they create a positive image due to the very practical and professional training they have received at the Institute. The panel of lecturers at HRMI consists of top-HR professionals in the country who head the HR function in many multi- nationals, local and foreign banks and leading private sector companies. The students are privileged to learn under some of the most sought- after HR professionals and trainers in the country who use modern teaching and training techniques to make the learning interesting and absorbing. You may browse ‘ www. hrmi. lk’ for details of lecturers and courses.
