Ranabima Royal College is one of the foremost schools in the Central Province. It is situated in Gannoruwa surrounded by the calm and quiet environment of the Dividosgala reserve. This land is considered to be significant due to the fact that the British were defeated by the upcountry heroes during the battle of Gannoruwa.

The school was established in 1996, under the guidance of the former Chief Minister of the Central Province Hon. W.M.P.B.Dissanayake, former Secretary of Education of the Central Province Mr. Palitha Elkaduwa. Their main motive was to strengthen communal harmony by nurturing Sinhala, Tamil and Muslim students under one roof. The students are enrolled through a competitive examination accessible to all students of Central Province.

The first principal of this college was Mr .S. M. Keerthirathne, who is the present Principal of Dharmarajah College, Kandy. His untiring dedication towards the strengthening the college resulted in gaining recognition within a very short time.

The present principal Mr.S.M.M.G.Abeyrathne assumed duties in 2010. His vision towards moulding students is highly challenging. His prime motive in grooming the students is mainly based on being assertive to them rather than being aggressive. As a result the school has come up to a extremely good standard in all aspects.

The mission of the school is “to ensure quality education of this institution by improving internal and external evolution of teaching the learning process in order to produce well balanced, skilled individuals from school by upgrading attitudes of the school community”.

The Vision goes as “sustainable development through quality education”.

More than 1500 students are facilitated and guided by 92 members of the staff, to challenge the incoming need of educated and smart citizens. As a 1AB school they were placed first among boys schools in the island when the O/L results were announced in 2012.

Randeniya bagged the title of the ‘Best Athlete in 2013’ at Island level. He also won the Bronze medal in the 110 Hurdles at the Commonwealth Games sports meet held in 2012. In spite of his commitment towards sports activities, he also proved his academic capabilities by obtaining 9’A’s at the G.C.E.Ordinary level examination. The Wild Life Foundation of the college has been conducting the Annual Inter-School Exploration Hiking “Esprite De Nature” successfully. The School Science Society organises the Science Day programme “Beyond the Imagination” annually.
