Children's Corner at American Centre

- By Vinusha Paulraj

The American Centre in Sri Lanka could not have chosen a better day to open the new wing of their library in Colombo. They held an opening ceremony on October 1st which happened to be World Children’s Day.

Children from different backgrounds who were present at the event received many treats like face painting and balloon toys shaped like flowers, swords and even hats! They also enjoyed a story read to them by Ambassador Michele Sison, who represents the USA in both Sri Lanka and Maldives. She read a book called 'The Cat in the Hat' in the brand new room dedicated only to children’s books.

The children who came with their parents and teachers were the first to run in to the bright and cozy new Children’s Corner, seconds after it was opened by The Ambassador.

The area itself is a beautiful room full of art made by children and of course, lots of very interesting books. The bright, fuzzy carpet and comfortable benches make it a special place to read in and imagine all the adventures you read about.

The guests at the event included the famous author of children’s books Janaki Sooriyarachchi.

After the reading, both the children and adults enjoyed a thrilling magic show.
