Bandara and Perera are shuttle champions

Danushika Bandara of the Bank of Ceylon and Asanka Perera of the Sri Lanka Insurance Corporation emerged the women’s and men’s singles champions at the Nationalised Services Badminton championships that was worked off at S. Thomas’ Indoor Stadium, Mount Lavinia recently.While Danushika Bandara defeated W.G. (Lakshmi) Punchihewa of the Bank of Ceylon 21/8, 21/11 in a two setter, Asanka Perera downed Uditha Kandahettige 21/12, 12/19 also in a two setter.

Danushika Bandara then went onto clinch a double when she partnered Asanka Bandara to win the mixed doubles defeating the W.K.D. Anusha and C. Kurupanawela combination 15/21, 21/15, 21/08. Results: Women’s singles: Danushika Bandara beat W.G. (Lakshmi) Punchihewa 21/08, 21/11.

Men’s singles: Asanka Perera beat Uditha Kandaheetige 2112, 21/19.

Mixed doubles: Danushika Bandara and Asanka Perera beat W.K.D. Anusha and C. Kurupanawela 15/21, 21/15, 21/08.

Master’s doubles: K.S.D. Per- era and Saliya Pathirja beat C.R. Perera and J.A.S. Perera 21/11, 21/12.

Men’s veterans doubles: D. Leelaratne and C. Warnakulasuriya beat U.M. Thudugala and K. Wijesinghe 21/7, 18/21, 21/08.

Women’s Veterans singles. W.G. Puchihewa beat Ramani Gunasekera 21/15, 21/16.

Masters singles: D. Leelaratne beat W .S. Pathiraja 21/14, 22/20.

Men’s veterans singles. Chamara Perera beat R.S. Pushpakumara 21/01, 21/08.

Women’s doubles: K.D. Anusha and Deepika Sanjeewa beat W.G. Punchihewa and Chamika Jayamanne 16/21, 21/08, 21/12.

Men’s Plate: M.L. Kodagoda beat S. Dahanayaka 19/21, 21/19, 21/19.
