Ramesh double topples Dharmaraja

Right Arm Off spinner Ramesh Mendis leading the Dharmasoka first XI this season was rewarded with two five wicket hauls and registered his maiden first XI ton to see the Sokian’s register a ten wicket win over Dharmaraja College Kandy. The match was played at the Karandeniy­a Central College grounds.

Dharmaraja skipper Deneth Lanka won the toss and opted to bat first. Ramesh Mendis captured 5/ 52 while Sachin Divangana and Thilan Maduranga captured two wickets each to restrict the Rajans to 154 in 38.3 overs.

Dharmasoka replied with 246 in 57.2 overs. Skipper Ramesh Mendis scored 124 runs off 101 balls with seven boundaries and nine sixes. He scored his ton in 89 balls. Isuru Chathurang­a scored 37. Gihan Senevirath­ne captured five wickets for forty runs while Deneth Lanka captured three wickets for the visitors.

Dharmaraja were shot out for 123 runs in 43.1 overs before lunch on day two with Ramesh taking his second five wicket haul and Thilan Maduranga capturing four wickets with his right arm cutters. Ramesh Ranasinghe scored 38.

Requiring 32 runs to win the Sokian’s scored it in five overs with Isuru Chathurang­a unbeaten on 26.
