Micromax considering setting up mobile phone assembly plant in SL

-

Micromax mobile telephones are the number two selling brand in India in the smart phone category and overall number three, and in Sri Lanka, after two years of its launch, the brand is the third highest selling mobile telephone, according to Amit Mathr Head, International Business, Micromax Informatics Ltd (India).

He revealed this at a Media Round Table held in Colombo this week and said that these figures are very encouraging and appreciable. He said that they have invested a large sum of money in Sri Lanka to expand the business here. He told reporters that they are carefully monitoring the sales with the idea of setting up of an assembly plant here.

He said that their sales volumes are increasing and they are able to get the latest technology at an affordable price. He said that they are in Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Nepal, and they would be expanding to Russia, Myanmar and Romania. Micromax would also introduce high end telephones to Sri Lanka this year.

They have set up more than 2,200 retail outlets in Sri Lanka through their distributor ‘Metropolitan’, said Mr. Mahur. He said that all these would increase the sales. He pointed out that they have a tracking system which can monitor the registration of a phone once a ‘simcard is inserted from a factory in India, so that they would not encounter the ‘grey (unofficial)’ market. Sanjeev Ariaratnam, Country Manager Sri Lanka, Micromax said that they have a superior after sales service.
