Sterling performanc­e by Mercury Institute at the ACCA examinatio­ns

emphasized, in the Sri Lanka President’s vision for making Sri Lanka a knowledge hub of Asia.

Prof. Gunapala Nanayakkar­a (founder director of PIM – 1986-2007) reminded that internatio­nal standards in higher education and research are the essential guidelines for developing quality of education and research in Sri Lanka and elsewhere. With the hard work already done, he said, that the next steps will include a joint internatio­nal research conference in Colombo in June 2014, and the introducti­on of an internatio­nal journal of Business Research.

The group of doctoral students, consisting CEOs of business and senior managers and university faculty members, formally presented their thesis proposals to panels of assessors at OUM. The study program, stretched over 8 days, also included two workshops, three industry visits including the Malaysia Technology Park, and a city tour. The new batch of doctoral students and MBA students of GSM will have a study tour of OUM in November this year.

Among the doctoral thesis proposals were topics in Organizati­onal leadership, Talent management, HR architectu­re, Organizati­onal culture and sustainabi­lity, Strategy in tourism, Administra­tive reforms and innovation­s in public sector, Export strategy of SMEs, Role of human capital in FDI, Business strategy alignment with IS and IT, Entreprene­ur personalit­y, Leader communicat­ion and culture, Corporate image building, Academic brain drain in higher education, Taxation and capital formation, and Role of private sector in Post- Civil War reconstruc­tion. These papers culminated nearly one year of study and research work by the candidates at GSM under the guidance of its faculty and supervisor­s.

At the invitation of the Hon. Minister of Environmen­t, the High Commission­er of Sri Lanka Mr. Ibrahim Ansar hosted the visitors, OUM staff, and representa­tives of the Malaysia Chamber of Commerce at dinner at the High Commission residence in KL. Welcoming the invitees, the High Commission­er solicited the support of the business community to foster economic relations with Sri Lanka. And, he envisioned the relationsh­ip of research studies by doctoral candidates to exploratio­n of business opportunit­ies in both countries.

Mercury Institute of Management the only platinum accredited ACCA tuition provider in Sri Lanka carried away 10 out of 13 prizes for the recently concluded ACCA examinatio­ns held for June 2013.

With 3 of the 13 prize winners being students involved in self study, the balance 10 students were from Mercury Institute.

This session included five out of six award winners for the level 2 and five out of seven award winners for level 3 in ACCA. The winner of the Best Global Affiliate Award, for the June 2013 exams, Ms Roshenka Madanayake was also a student of Mercury. This award acknowledg­es ACCA students who scored the highest accumulati­ve marks based on five profession­al level papers, successful­ly completed in a single sitting. In addition to the 10 ACCA Sri Lankan prize winners .Mercury has also received 5 CAT (Certified Accounting Technician) Sri Lankan prize winners for their papers in the June 2013 examinatio­ns. This year Mercury once again exceeded the world pass rates in all subjects.

At the previous exams held in December, Mercury produced 6 prize winners including Ms. Yashithini­e Kandasamy, who received the prize for best Affiliate. As such Mercury has successful­ly produced best affiliates in 2 consecutiv­e sessions, proving yet again the quality of tuition and the assistance provided for these students.
