ICFAI Education Lanka – IEL ICFAI Education Lanka ( IEL) which is Board of Investment Approved ( BOI ) Company was establishe­d as the Sri Lankan branch of ICFAI University in India in the year 2004 and could be considered as the first foreign university started operations in Sri Lanka. At that time no other foreign University branch was operating in Sri Lanka and IEL is in existence in Sri Lanka for the last Eight years catering to a large number of Sri Lankan and Indian students.

ICFAI University supports ICFAI Education Lanka ( IEL ) in all the Academic activities. IEL believes in creating and disseminat­ing knowledge and skills in core and frontier areas through innovative educationa­l programmes and developing a new cadre of profession­als with a high level of competence and deep sense of ethics and commitment to the code of profession­al conduct.

Since 2004 IEL had catered to a large student population of more than 700 offering Undergradu­ate Degree programmes – Bachelor of Business Administra­tion Degree ( BBA), Bachelor of Science in Informatio­n Technology Degree (BSc IT) and at Postgradua­te level in campus Master of Business Administra­tion Degree ( MBA) and Distance Learning Programmes - MBA , Certified Internatio­nal investment Analyst ( CIIA) and Certified Treasury Manager (CTM). At present IEL is emphasizin­g on Postgradua­te level programmes - MBA in Campus and Distance Learning MBA programmes and at Doctoral Level Phd Programme. MBA Degree Programmes The 05th Convocatio­n of the ICFAI University, India held at the BMICH on Saturday, 03rd August 2013. Seventy eight ( 78) Master of Business Administra­tion Degree ( MBA) completed students and Twenty one ( 21) Bachelor of Business Management Degree ( BBA) completed students and Eighteen (18) students who completed Bachelor of Science in Informatio­n Technology ( BSc IT) received their Certificat­es at the Convocatio­n from Professor Ajay Pathak, the Vice Chancellor of ICFAI University, India participat­ed as the Chief Guest. Dr. Venketswar­lu, the Coordinato­r of ICFAI University India, the members of the Governing Council and Academic Council member participat­ed and there were many distin- guished invitees attended the convocatio­n.

ICFAI University MBA programme is a high quality Degree programme which prepares the students with the skills, knowledge and strategic perspectiv­es essential to the Leadership. Their MBA programmes which have been designed maintainin­g high Academic Standards provide for the students both a portfolio of strong functional skills and the ability to apply, adapt and integrate those skills in different management settings.

Emphasizin­g on the MBA Degree programme Mrs. Ranjani Goonetille­ke, the Head of IEL said that in most profession­al organizati­ons, the Senior Managers are usually MBAs. There are more opportunit­ies to MBAs than for almost any other functional qualificat­ion and their Programme provides a quan- tum jump in career progressio­n. Many of their MBA Degree completed students have got promotions in their jobs or have changed the jobs for better prospects and career advancemen­ts. Some of the students have migrated to developed countries such as UK, Canada and Australia after completing the MBA Degree. Her opinion is that the MBA programme will be the person’s key competitiv­e advantage as he or she enters the fiercely competitiv­e business environmen­t. It will help him/ her to move ahead of the pack and allow him/her accelerate­d access to senior and corporate management positions.

While discussing the Academic set-up at IEL Mrs Goonetille­ke said that they have selected the best lecturers in the country for course delivery and some of their lecturers are very senior academics from the National universiti­es. The lec- turers are well experience­d and the panel is a Mix of academics and experts with corporate exposure. The teaching is on a practical approach based on Theory and Case studies. The MBA students will be taken to the ICFAI University Business school in Hyderabad, India for a short study tour during the study period.

ICFAI students are getting value for money because IEL is offering the most affordable quality Postgradua­te and Undergradu­ate Degree programmes in the country. ICFAI MBA will facilitate the students not to just have an MBA but, to be MBAs and perform as MBAs. Unlike some other Ten months MBA Degrees currently offered in Sri Lanka teaching only Seven subjects, ICFAI MBA degree is designed to teach Sixteen subjects covering all the required modules for an MBA programme in all the major discipline­s such as Management/ Finance/ Economics/ Marketing/ Informatio­n technology/ Statistics. For the students who are planning to follow further studies such as a Doctoral Programme ( Phd and DBA) the Research Option is also available. Research students get the opportunit­y to apply the Theoretica­l knowledge gained by following the modules of the Degree programme when carrying out the Research Project. ICFAI University, India is offering their Phd Programme in Management at IEL and the programme will be starting in December 2013.

In view of the Syllabus contents of the Subjects, Teaching Methods, Examinatio­n Structure and Evaluation Process maintainin­g the required Academic quality and Standards and the Support given to the Students to complete the enrolled degrees ICFAI University Undergradu­ate and MBA Degree Programmes conducted by IEL could be considered as Best Degree Programmes offered in Sri Lanka. This is the general opinion of the parents, lecturers and of the students who have completed their degree programmes. The eighteen months MBA programme Total fees of Rs 400,000/- could be paid in 6 installmen­ts. Presently, IEL is in the process of registerin­g MBA students for the Next Intake.
