Tyron and Saveen have S. Thomas' in a spin

- By M. Shamil Amit

Richmond's right and left arm spin combination of A.K. Tyron and Saveen Nanayakkara has put S. Thomas' in a spin when play stopped for lunch on day two in their Under 19 inter- school cricket encounter played at Galle yesterday.

The pair shared six wickets between them to have S. Thomas' batting the second time with a deficit of 59 runs struggling on 49 for 7. This was after Richmond resuming on their overnight score of 159 for 6 adding a further 19 runs and declaring their innings on 178 for 9.

The opening day's play too saw the Thomians succumbing to the same bowling pair who together combined sharing seven wickets to bowl them out for a paltry score of 119. S. Thomas' are now in deep trouble as they are left with the tail end batting who will have to do something extraordinary in the two sessions of play left if they are to save the match from a certain defeat.

Isipathana have already obtained a first inning lead over St. Peter's when play stopped for lunch on the second day in the match played at the FTZ ground in Katunayake. The opening day's play saw Isipathana taking first lease of the wicket making a modest score of 217 which came on the back of an unbeaten 76 by Dushan Nirmana.

St. Peter's in their turn ended the day with a bold reply of 113 for 3, but resuming their innings on day two, was restricted to a score of 170 with Tory Thabrew and Chameera Dissanayake doing the damage.
