-

Phillips-Van Heusen (Far East) Ltd., a subsidiary of PVH Corporation famous for the Van Heusen shirts and also owning the Calvin Klein and Tommy Hilfiger brands, is to open a local office in Sri Lanka in a bid to grow its business, officials said.

“We are looking to grow our business in Sri Lanka in intimate apparel, sleepwear and other sectors such as swimwear and casualwear categories. We will open an office in Sri Lanka possibly at the World Trade Cen- tre," Mark Green Executive Vice President-Global Supply Chain, P.V.H. Far East Lt., told the Business times.

He was attending the Commonwealth Business Forum which was held in conjunction with the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting recently. He said the company will be looking at new product development based on innovation in Sri Lanka. “It will be our completive edge,” he added.

PVH Corporation that lever- ages a diversified portfolio of brands - including Calvin Klein, Tommy Hilfiger, Van Heusen, IZOD, ARROW, and Bass - and markets them globally. Mr. Green said that sustainability, a key differentiator at many of Sri Lanka's garmnt factories, is a driving force. PVH, for example, he added aims to source 95 per cent of its products from green factories.

He also said that what's changing and impacting sourcing is the intricacy of demand rather than higher orders.

Mr. Green said Sri Lanka has been strategic in its vertical manufacturing chain. “This is because they are leaders in human rights compliance, leaders in sustainability, leaders in lean manufacturing, etc. All these created an environment which can be meaningful to an apparel brand or an apparel retailer," he explained, adding that this has been another reason for them to expand their business in Sri Lanka.
