Eighteen Lankan cricketers on show

-

Eighteen of the country’s most recognizable current and former national cricketers will exhibit their off-field ability when they hit the runway for Fashion Sri LankaSpring/ Summer 2014, a show in aid of a proposed training and simulation centre for the Sri Lanka College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists which will take place on November 24, at the Galadari Hotel.

The facility will strengthen the training of midwives, nurses and doctors in providing adequate care for pregnant women. Past Lankan wicketkeeper-batsman Romesh Kaluwitharana said that he saw the creation of such a centre as crucial for the country’s mothers.

“In other parts of the world, throughout the pregnancy to the time the baby is born, the mother is given care. There are even classes for husbands. Here too we should give them confidence. We (cricketers) decided to do it because this is a great cause to create awareness for and an ideal campaign to educate people,” Kaluwitharana revealed.

The cricketers who will be walking down the ramp are Sanath Jayasuriya, Romesh Kaluwitharana, Chaminda Vaas, Champika Ramanayake, Angelo Matthews, Kumar Sangakkara, Lasith Malinga, Nuwan Kulasekara, Rangana Herath, Sachithra Senanayake, Jehan Mubarak, Kaushal Lokuarachchi, Malinga Bandara, Ajantha Mendis, Jeewan Mendis, Chamara Kapugedera, Suraj Randiv and Farveez Maharoof.

Those interested in donating to the center’s construction fund may address their cheques to ‘Save the Mothers Fund’, Account No. 75303475 at the Bank of Ceylon, Regent street branch, Colombo 10.

The cheques could be posted to the Sri Lanka College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists, 112, Model Farm Road, Colombo 8.
