Prior to the awards ceremony the final of the FFSL president’s trophy inter club knock-out soccer tournament between Rangers SC Ukuwela and Jolly boys SC Matale was played before the chief guest and other invitees.

The cancelled Sports Festival

A key sports festival which was to be held this year was called off. This is the first time that this sports festival which has been held for the past 30 years was cancelled. The reason given for it was that there were not enough funds to conduct the competitions. It has now been revealed that the festival which is normally enjoyed and participated by the children of farmers was put off to celebrate the anniversary of the Big Man of the area. Due to this cancellation those who suffered as a result were the budding farmers’ sons and daughters who had big hopes to show off their talents.

A sticky situation

All eyes and ears are glued to a key AGM scheduled to be held in December. There is a lot of pressure from the International Body not to have political connections to it.

It has surfaced that the person who is coming forward for the post of secretary is also not qualified to hold the post as he has put forward false pretenses. All this has now surfaced putting the candidate on a sticky wicket. It is strange that candidate has not know the rules and regulations of this sports body as he has been secretary of this top body for several years.

The president knows best

Some valuable advice has been given by

Off the court

The first session of the game belonged to Rangers who led 1/0 at short whistle with forward F.M Farhan booting a goal the second session was also closely contested but the Ranges failed to prevent the fight back put in by the Jolly Boys who made the equalizer through M. Nazeer in the dying stages of the match. Matale FL made this occasion to felicitate the chief guest in appreciation of his honorable service and contribution to promote and up lift the stranded of football in the outstations. the president of a sports body which uses shuttle corks.

He as advised a top women player that she should be able to play the cork 3,200 times without dropping it and then she will be of world standard. This president has no clear proof of having played the sport at top level. However but those who know about the sport had gone into the background of the sport say that this is a true picture if someone wants to be on top of the sport.

Another top player who had listened to this little bit of advice said: ‘He is mad’, adding that if some one can play the cork 100 times without dropping it, which would be quite sufficient to be a world champ. Who knows the game better? The president or the player concerned!

Concerning the same sport, a top woman player was seen practicing at the official courts when an official had berated her saying that she cannot use the courts because she has turned down her official sponsor. She had retorted: ‘I am a national champion and I have the right to use these courts’! It has now surfaced that this player had emerged champion at an open event earlier but the news had not been released to the media by this same official who had not wanted her to train on the official courts! wela; Matale.

Cheap trophy for top champ

An indoor sport which is played mainly to keep fit held its championships recently and the woman player who won the event was presented with the Champions Trophy.

The coach of this woman player had spotted that an inferior, cheap trophy was presented to the champion. There was a big discussion over the affair and the coach asked: ‘Why offer this cheap trophy for a top champ!”

A website was opened at the Oval Office after much fanfare and all fans of the game were very happy that at last they will be able to be in touch with the game’s affairs here and abroad. All this took place six months ago but now the website is quiet like the ground after a rousing rugby game.

On investigation it was revealed that the person who operated the website had not been paid for the past six months and that he has quietly faded from the scene. Fading away from the scene were others who were involved with the website including photographers and other officials… all because they were not paid. It is understood that this is an inside job and the official involved is a former national player who is involved with the sport.
