- By M. Shamil Amit from Balapitiya

Defending champions St. Peter’s and Royal Panadura advance to the semi-finals of the 2nd Revatha Sixes cricket tournament played at the Teachers Training School ground in Balapitiya yesterday.

St. Peter’s got the better of Devapathiraja MMV Rathgama in the quarter-final whom they defeated by 21 runs. St. Peter’s drew a bye and then later overcame St. Servatius Matara in the pre-quarter final.

Royal Panadura on the other hand recorded two fine wins against Sri Siddartha MV Balapitiya by 50 runs in a first round match and then followed it with a thrilling last ball six win over Dharmasoka MV Ambalangoda in a high scoring pre-quarter encounter.

In the quarter-final they coasted to an easy win over the high riding Kalutara MV side who had the honour of recording the highest score on day one when they made 107 for no loss against Vidyaloka MV Galle in a first round match.

The match also saw Kalutara MV opener making an unbeaten knock of 82 which comprised four boundaries and ten towering sixes. But Kalutara MV was short of the highest score of the tournament which was 126 made by defending champions St. Peter’s in the final against Karandeniya Central in the inaugural tournament last year.

Richmond along with host side Revatha MMV too made steady progress when they got the better of President’s Rajagiriya and Karandeniya Central to book a berth to the quarter finals.

The second day’s proceedings will see the bottom half of teams comprising Zahira, Prince of Wales, Mahinda, and Gurukula MV Kelaniya who bagged the OWSC Munchee Sixes title two months ago in action.

The 2nd Revatha Sixes organized by the Old Revathians Cricket Association with Citihealth Imports (Pvt) Ltd as the main sponsor saw 24 teams around the island in action.
