Christmas under the stars with the De Lanerolle Brothers
Having stepped off a plane from Singapore just last week Rohan De Lanerolle is as calm and cool as ever about the brothers’ upcoming Christmas show on December 2. Hardly anyone would have guessed that the performer has just accomplished a remarkable feat. Rohan had the distinction of being invited to sing in Singapore at the Johor Chorale Music Society’s performance of Handel’s Messiah on November 16.
“I was elated,” he said, recalling the moment when he received the invitation from conductor Lee Chong Min. One of the four soloists, Rohan was also the only international artiste to perform at the concert. Backed by the festival chamber orchestra and a 50-strong choir, the show accommodated an audience of 1300 people. For Rohan, the experience was indeed nerve-wracking. “I had sung only a small part of the Messiah before,” he admits and his solos were not the easiest to sing either. The people and atmosphere there however made him feel at home. “It was so relaxed when I got there,” he said, “even though they were very firm when it came to practice.”
If that was Rohan in Singapore, local fans have the chance to see him perform along with brother Ishan on December 2 when the “Waters Edge” presents the De Lanerolle Brothers Christmas show. This will be the first of their shows to be performed out- doors with the main course being action stations providing you with the best in food and wine. The Brothers assure some great Christmas music ranging from well known classics to modern hits performed exclusively by the duo along with a sing-a-long session for everyone.
