British School U-15 cricketers win warm-up games

The British School in Colombo warmed up for the upcoming Inter-Internatio­nal Schools Under-15 Cricket tournament by recording morale-boosting victories in two practice matches, worked off at the President’s College ground in Rajagiriya recently.

The British School in Colombo, captained by Liam Saugy started off with an exciting 16-run victory over Belvoir College and then cruised to a comprehens­ive 65-run triumph over Leighton Park Internatio­nal School. The most outstandin­g individual performanc­e for British School came from Nisal Kaluarachc­hige, who smashed a sparkling 85 runs inclusive of three sixes and nine boundaries in the match against Belvoir College.

Skipper Liam Saugy also completed a fine half- century as British School piled on a formidable 205 for 3 wickets from their allotted 26 overs after having won the toss and elect- ed to bat first. Kaluarachc­hige had an excellent day on the field too while capturing two wickets as Belvoir College managed to score only 189 runs for nine wickets with M. Ashan making a top score of 64.

In the second match against Leighton Park Internatio­nal School, Liam Saugy struck a superb 82 with the help of three sixes and 13 boundaries as British School hammered 218 for 7 wickets in 25 overs. Nisal Kaluarachc­hige then snapped up three wickets for 12 runs to reduce Leighton Park Internatio­nal School to 153 for 8 wickets in 25 overs
