DJ Martin Garrix races to the top of the charts

This week it was the turn of 17 year old Dutch DJ Martin Garrix to zoom to the top of the UK singles chart with the electro house track ‘Animals’. The song had been circulatin­g on the continent since June first on the club scene. Little was known about the actual person behind the ‘Animals’ until recently. After it topped the Belgian chart it gained respect and a label for release. ‘Animals’ follows the previous DJ backed chart topper ‘Look Right Through’ by Storm Queen. ‘Animals’ samples Busta Rhymes ‘What’s Up. Meanwhile, when informed of his UK success Garrix said he will be celebratin­g his achievemen­t with his parents and school ol friends. illy Allen led the charge of the home effort on the chart as her rendition of the Keane minor hit of 2004 ‘Somewhere Only We Know’ debutebute­d at No:2. The song is used in animated TV campaign for John Lewis this Christmas with the Bear and Hare story. Do take a look. For 28 year Allen ‘Somewhere Only...’ is her first UK top hit since 2008 when ‘Not Fair’ peaked at No: 4. She was guest on the top 10 hit ‘5’O Clock’ with T-Pain and Whiz Khalifa in 2001. llie Goulding’s ‘How Long Will I Love You’ jumped from 117 to No: 3 this week perhaps making a strong gain after her live performanc­e of the song on 15th November on the BBC’s Children In Need telethon charity event. The song is a 1990 Waterboys cover version. The song appears on Ellie’s album ‘Halcyon Days and also on the soundtrack of the film About Time. rooning his way to the top 10 is Robbie Williams with ‘Go Gentle’ the debut release from his album ‘Swing Both Ways’. The swing pop track is a likable radio friendly track with a calming effect. ‘’Go Gentle’ is Williams 30th top 10 hit song in the UK.
