Sugu Leads Sri Lanka to victory in Golf against India

-

A power-packed six member sports contingent took wing to the Netherlands recently and in that group were two sports officials well versed in matters of the Oval Office. Before the group went they said that they will brief the international body a thing or two about running sports affairs. But the international body was not deterred by this group and they laid down strict laws to conduct sports matters. They said in no uncertain terms that the AGM of this body which was supposed to be held at the end of this month should not be held for another year and the present members should conduct its matters under strict supervision. Their rigid rule is: Do Not Mix Sports and Politics.

Best of both worlds

The news that a sports body of a very popular sport has been employing a very powerful man in their association to get their things done quickly and efficiently is quite well known. It so happens that this official is a leading law abiding officer. This official is also drawing two salaries. One is from the place where he is employed officially and the other from his work at the sports association. Naturally he has to enjoy the best of both worlds!

Bad time for AGMs

It looks as if it not the best of times to hold AGMs. Another AGM has been has been stopped. This time the top man in sports in the island has stepped in to postpone the AGM of this pedaling sport. The reason for stopping this AGM is that the man who is coming forward as its new president is not suited for the job. It looks as if the Sports Boss knows all!

What power can do?

On the subject of AGMs two outstation sports associations have not held their AGMs for quite some time. One very famous association has not held its AGM for six years but an official from this body has made several overseas trips simply because the Boss of this association happens to be a very powerful individual. It is also said that another association from the East has as its head a very famous woman athlete of years gone by.

The Sri Lanka Golf team of California beat the Indian team comfortably at the Annual Golf challenge, held on Sunday November 17th at the Knollwood Country Club, Granada Hills, California.

The tournament was conducted in the same format as the Ryder cup, 26 golfers in each team. The Sri Lankan team scored 7.5 points beating the Indian team with 5.5 points.

Sugu when accepting the award said "I am proud of my team, we were not the favorites going in, the Indians had a very strong team, but I had full confidence with my team, each golfer was focused and committed to play their best game and we did it as a team". "We play the Mexican team next in March 2014, again I feel good about the Sri Lankan's chances".
