WSO2 eyes Asia Pacific software market

WSO2, a Colombo-based global ICT software company, last week moved into a new spacious office at Palm Grove, Kollupitiya after being located in several places in Colombo.

Devaka Randeniya, Vice President, Sales, WSO2, during the get-together celebrating the new premises, told the Business Times that they are a software company providing ‘middle-ware’ sources or the technology that interconnects IT systems. He said that the Colombo office of the company operates as the head-office of WSO2. Earlier they were operating in two places in Colombo and one aim in all of them coming together is to further expand their business, Mr. Randeniya said.

He said that most of their customers are from the United States and Europe, but they hoped to have their footprint in the Asia-Pacific too. He said, “We are among the top 10 IT software vendors in the global market. Colombo is the main office with 90 per cent of the workforce here being Sri Lankans.”

During his brief address to the gathering, Dr. Sanjiva Weerawarana, Chairman/CEO, WSO2 said that their vision is to be the world’s number one middleware provider. To be able to successfully compete in this space, they need to meet certain standards, he said. “These standards not only apply to technical expertise but also our work culture and how we operate,” he said.

Today there is a greater focus on enterprise IT because it facilitates change and aids with adapting to change. A key challenge faced by most companies today is the lack of resources to keep pace with the required changes in enterprise development, he said, adding that WSO2 through its open source middleware has been able to meet some of these challenges.

On the sidelines of the gathering, Prof Ananda Jayawardane, Vice Chancellor, Moratuwa University, told the Business Times that they closely associate with WSO2 with the university providing human resource options.

He said that WSO2 supports the university very much on mentoring at the world’s best ‘Open Source Google Competition.

Some of the company’s key clients include Boeing, eBay, Cisco Systems-US, British Airways, Dialog Axiata PLC, Fidelity Investments, John Keells Holdings and the Dubai eGovernment.(
