Sahasak Nimevum 2013 showcases Sri Lankan Ingenuity & Creativity
‘Sahasak Nimevum 2013’ the national platform for Sri Lanka’s inventors, was yesterday (30) declared open for the second consecutive year at the BMICH, by Research & Technology Minister, Patali Champika Ranawaka.
Today Higher Education Minister S.B. Dissanayake, Education Minister Bandula Gunawardena and Youth Affairs Minister of Dulles Allahapperuma will officiate at the event, which will continue till December 2, and be open from 10 am to 5 pm daily.
The exhibition has over 800 inventors displaying around 300 inventions and innovations, with many entries from Open and University categories showcased to inspire young inventors.
Many undergraduates’ and schoolchildren’s keenness and enthusiasm to display their work under 12 technical fields which includes making the disabled independent, teaching aids, health and nutrition, safe- ty and security, and environment, is a noteworthy fact.
There were 248 school level entries and 205 from university level. The school level entries were shortlisted from over 1500 submitted to the provincial exhibitions in all nine provinces.
University entries have been promoted by the SIIP which was organized by the Higher Education Ministry.
The winners will be awarded the Dasis Award, National Awards and Award for Vertical Technical Fields, while other inventors will be considered by investors and even recommended for product development and commercialisation grants. The chief organizers, Sri Lanka Inventors Commission, has invited investors looking to pioneer creations for this purpose. The inventors will also be given the opportunity to take part in international exhibitions through this event.
