-

Chamani Madushika from Gat eway I n t e r nat i o n a l Rajagiriya ( www. gatewaycoll ege. lk) reached out to Scholarships for USA (Pvt) Ltd (www.scholarshipsforusa.com) a few months back with a simple request; to find a good US university to major in Biology with a scholarship matching her academic achievements, advanced placement for A- L results and hands on experience through paid internships which would serve her well upon graduation. SUSA obliged in record time by getting her no less than six offers in record time - each with a more enticing offer - from such diverse locations as Hawai’i, Montana, Missouri, Te n n e s s e e , Minnesota and Illinois. after careful consideration Madu decided on College of St. Benedicts who had offered her an almost a 50% scholarship. CSBSJU, located in central Minnesota is considered the second largest Catholic university in US and is among the top 100 private liberal arts schools in the nation and is another school introduced to Sri Lanka by SUSA. Joining CSB in fall ‘13 this is what Madu had to say about her experience thus far;

“Everybody’s been really nice in Minnesota. I was actually surprised by their warmth. I have been busy since the first week of orientation. I feel like I am always on the run; always trying to catch up to the next thing I have to do - whether getting to the next class or showing up for on- campus activities. But, I really like it this way, there’s always something to do, so I never get bored. Also, it helps to not get homesick”.

“My classes are going really good. I have talked to all my professors and they are simply great. Some of them have even helped me out when I was struggling with a few things. My academic advisors - Lisa Scott and Nichole Matuska, I see them every week and they have helped me practically with everything. Every time I

needed help, there were so many extending their hands. So it has been a truly amazing experience for someone separated from family thousands of miles away.

I have made so many friends in such a short time - both international and American students and anywhere I go there is at least one person that I know by face and name”.

SUSA since ‘01 has been passionately committed to help Lankan academics entering US schools with scholarships and many other benefits and the number of students who have benefited from across the island have now reached around 250. SUSA is the only Lankan recruiter who works exclusively with US schools and is able to negotiate scholarships for each one of its candidates.
