Lyceum International School Wattala came away winners at the annual InterInternational Schools Swimming Meet, securing a tally of 900 points to drown out a strong threat from Gateway College, who finished with 878 points following action at the Sugathadasa pool recently.

Their counterparts from Nugegoda also presented an imperious display in the water to finish with 741 points. Although meet organisers, Asian International School, fell one slot short of the top three, they left an indelible mark on the competition through a clutch of magnificent swims from the national talent within their ranks.

At the vanguard of this unit was national swimmer Matthew Abeysinghe, who secured the coveted title of Age Group Champion of the senior Over 16 category. Abeysinghe was head and shoulders above the rest of the competition, and his only really opponents on the day were the meet’s records. He succeeded in thwarting them as well felling them in two of the three races he took part in.

As a result of his efforts- as well of those of the Raheem sisters, Machiko and Kimiko and his younger brothers Kyle and Dillon- they left the championships after breaking 13 of its 43 records.

The overall title winners Lyceum Wattala earned dividends through a well-rounded showing from all its young swimmers. Standouts amongst the group through were Radush Sathasivam, Sandu Savindi, Udesha Wickramarachchi, Prithviraj Kalyanasundaram and Deekshi Gunasekara.
