Await the majestic Josephian Carols 2013!
Titled Magnificat – (My soul magnifies the Lord), the soul stirring, awe inspiring Josephian Christmas Carols will take place within the vast Stanley Abeysekera Auditorium of St. Josephs College- Colombo 10 on Saturday 7th December 2013.
The event will be introduced by the Senior Western Band of the College who will commence playing at 6.15 p.m. the “Christmas Overture”.
The Carol service proper will commence at 6.30 p.m. with the solemn entrance procession with the Chief Celebrant Most Rev. Dr. Emmanuel Fernando, Colombo’s Auxiliary Bishop, to the majestic strains of “Jesu Redemptor” sung by the members of St. Cecelia’s choir of St Joseph’s College, numbering over 80 singers of the ages twelve to eighteen.
The programme will unfold with the majestic composition of Beethoven titled “The Creation Hymn”. The highlights of the event will include “Hail Mary”, “Magnificat”, “Baba Yetu” (African) and the modern version of “The First Noel” apart from several traditional Carols involving the participation of the congregation.
The evening will also feature the renowned Old Joes Choir of 25 tenors and bases, a 50 strong teachers choral group and a 70 member angelic voices of the Primary School.
This year’s theme will be Mary’s role in the nativity story, set to emphasize the Blessed Mother’s inspiration for us to face the challenges of the modern society which brings so much anxiety and uncertainty.
The carols that involve a total of 250 singers will be enriched with inspiring advent reflections and visual presentation of Bible scenes. The event is free of charge and everyone who longs for an inspiring pre-Christmas evening of music and reflections is cordially invited for this extraordinary event.
