Ladies College Vocational Studies and the Colombo Institute of Research and Psychology have been in a collaborative partnership since 2010 and are currently preparing for their 4th successful intake of students.

As institutions seeking to better promote and establish the wellbeing and mental health of children in Sri Lanka, the Diploma in Child and Adolescent Psychology offered at LCDVS is tailor-made especially for individuals that are interested in effectively handling and communicating with adolescents and children and is taught by experienced and highly qualified lecturers from CIRP, as a stepping stone to further popularize this movement within Sri Lanka’s community of education providers and parents.

The program shines light on aspects of Psychology related to developmental psychology, cognitive psychology, disorders of childhood and adolescence, therapy for children and education psychology and is designed to provide individuals a comprehensive view into understanding the behavior and thinking patterns of children and adolescents. The course curriculum is centered on providing skills and practical knowledge that is applicable to School and preschool teachers, parents, Day care providers, social workers and parents with children with special needs that would benefit from this program immensely.

The diploma also allows a steady pathway leading to a BSc (Hons) Psychology to those who successfully complete it, where they have the option of transferring their credits into a Higher National Diploma, gaining exemptions for the modules already completed in the Diploma.

LCDVS recently hosted an extremely successful work shop on the 12th of October 2013 where almost 100 individuals attended; the work shop was conducted by Dr Darshan Perera, Director – Academic Affairs at CIRP and Dr Janet LeValley, Dean – Undergradute Studies at CIRP in order to educate teachers and parents on understanding children’s behavior and how best to effectively handle them.
