The Institutio­n of Engineers, Sri Lanka (IESL) which is the premier profession­al body for engineers in Sri Lanka has gained reputation as an important provider of engineerin­g education in the country. The history of the IESL Engineerin­g course dates back to 1967. Over the years it has undergone several reforms in order to improve its standards and to make it more attractive and relevant.

The IESL College of Engineerin­g (Pvt) Ltd. (IESLCE) is a subsidiary of the IESL and it was establishe­d in 2011 with the intention of conducting the Engineerin­g Course in a more efficient and organized manner. The IESLCE It is determined to become the best choice for tertiary education in engineerin­g for those who have a passion to become future engineers but deprived of gaining entry to state universiti­es. It provides the students high quality education in major fields of engineerin­g while fostering innovation and creativity among them in order to produce leaders in the engineerin­g profession who could make a valuable service to the country.

The structure of the academic programme is designed with three levels, Certificat­e, Advanced Diploma and the Graduate Diploma and it facilitate­s lateral entry at different levels and multiple exits at the end of each level. The curriculum is continuous­ly revised to improve its quality and relevance and also to promote outcome-based education, gearing the students to be successful in a dynamic and challengin­g work environmen­t.

The course provides a good balance between theoretica­l knowledge and practical skills. Most of the modules include laboratory sessions so that the students can obtain practical knowledge to enhance the theoretica­l knowledge obtained through the lectures.

The course is offered at an affordable fee and the theory classes are conducted at the IESL headquarte­rs in Colombo, during the weekends, to allow students who are already employed, to follow the classes at ease.

The practical sessions are conducted at the University of Moratuwa and the Open University of Sri Lanka. The medium of instructio­n is English.

lk/collegeof engineerin­g Certificat­e level Engineerin­g Certificat­e Stage 1 – One Year Engineerin­g Certificat­e Stage 2 – One Year

On successful completion of the Certificat­e level Stages 1 and 2, students are eligible to receive IESL Engineerin­g Certificat­e.

A dv a n c e d Diploma Level Advanced Diploma Stage 1 – One Year Advanced Diploma Stage 2 – One Year On successful completion of the Advanced Diploma Stages 1 and 2, students are eligible to receive IESL Engineerin­g Advanced Diploma.

Graduate Diploma Level Graduate Diploma – One Ye a r On successful completion of the Graduate Diploma students will be awarded the IESL Engineerin­g Graduate Diploma.

After successful completion of the course the students are eligible to become an Associate Member of the IESL, a profession­al qualificat­ion well recognized both in the State & Private sector. Civil Electrical Mechanical Electronic­s, communicat­ion & computer

The highly qualified and dedicated academic staff consists of part time lecturers from the Engineerin­g Faculties of the state universiti­es and the industry who make every effort to create a stimulatin­g academic environmen­t to promote and enhance innovation among students. Scholarshi­ps A scholarshi­p scheme is available to reward and recognize the high achieving students, based on merit. As a responsibl­e Educationa­l Institute, IESLCE extends its gratitude to the war heroes by offering scholarshi­ps to their children. In addition, scholarshi­ps are awarded to finalists of Junior Inventor of the Year (JIY) competitio­n to motivate and encourage them towards higher achievemen­ts.
