The Institution of Engineers, Sri Lanka (IESL) which is the premier professional body for engineers in Sri Lanka has gained reputation as an important provider of engineering education in the country. The history of the IESL Engineering course dates back to 1967. Over the years it has undergone several reforms in order to improve its standards and to make it more attractive and relevant.
The IESL College of Engineering (Pvt) Ltd. (IESLCE) is a subsidiary of the IESL and it was established in 2011 with the intention of conducting the Engineering Course in a more efficient and organized manner. The IESLCE It is determined to become the best choice for tertiary education in engineering for those who have a passion to become future engineers but deprived of gaining entry to state universities. It provides the students high quality education in major fields of engineering while fostering innovation and creativity among them in order to produce leaders in the engineering profession who could make a valuable service to the country.
The structure of the academic programme is designed with three levels, Certificate, Advanced Diploma and the Graduate Diploma and it facilitates lateral entry at different levels and multiple exits at the end of each level. The curriculum is continuously revised to improve its quality and relevance and also to promote outcome-based education, gearing the students to be successful in a dynamic and challenging work environment.
The course provides a good balance between theoretical knowledge and practical skills. Most of the modules include laboratory sessions so that the students can obtain practical knowledge to enhance the theoretical knowledge obtained through the lectures.
The course is offered at an affordable fee and the theory classes are conducted at the IESL headquarters in Colombo, during the weekends, to allow students who are already employed, to follow the classes at ease.
The practical sessions are conducted at the University of Moratuwa and the Open University of Sri Lanka. The medium of instruction is English.

On successful completion of the Certificate level Stages 1 and 2, students are eligible to receive IESL Engineering Certificate.
A dv a n c e d Diploma Level Advanced Diploma Stage 1 – One Year Advanced Diploma Stage 2 – One Year On successful completion of the Advanced Diploma Stages 1 and 2, students are eligible to receive IESL Engineering Advanced Diploma.
Graduate Diploma Level Graduate Diploma – One Ye a r On successful completion of the Graduate Diploma students will be awarded the IESL Engineering Graduate Diploma.

The highly qualified and dedicated academic staff consists of part time lecturers from the Engineering Faculties of the state universities and the industry who make every effort to create a stimulating academic environment to promote and enhance innovation among students. Scholarships A scholarship scheme is available to reward and recognize the high achieving students, based on merit. As a responsible Educational Institute, IESLCE extends its gratitude to the war heroes by offering scholarships to their children.
