Zahira stages third cricket carnival

Zahira College Colombo conducted its third Cricket Academy Carnival at the college grounds in Maradana. Teams such as the Riders, Strikers, Thunders, Hitters, Stars, Rockers, Titans, Warriors and Giants participat­ed in this carnival.

In the Under-11 final match, the Stars defeated the Thunders and in the Under- 12 final, the Warriors defeated the Strikers.

of honour national cricketer Chanaka Welegedara, Principal Trizvi Marikkar, C r i cke t Committee Chairman Milhan Lafir, Sports Council Chairman Tony Amit and Deputy Chairman M.S.M. Mazeer were distribute­d awards, gold medals and certificat­es to the winners.

The chief guest of the event, Head of the Cricket Operation SLC, Carlton Bernardus, said Zahira does very well in all sports not just in cricket but also soccer. “Under-19 cricket and now the junior level is also in a good position,” he said while wishing Zahira the best in the future in all the sports activities.

Vice Principal M. Shazuli, Cricket Academy Teacher in Charge, K. Y. Sanjeewani Perera, Master-in-Charge M.R.D. Hameem, Director Academy M. R. A. Razak, Former Academy Director Akram Moulana, Group of ’80s President Feroz Inham, Head Coach Safraz Zarook, Assistants Coach Mohamed Shameer and Mohamed Ishthiyaq and Members of the Academy were also present.– NA
