CICRA’s Boshan cyber security panelist at top US military event

Boshan Dayaratne, Director/CEO of CICRA Consultanc­ies (Pvt) Ltd – the premier cyber security training and consultanc­y provider of Sri Lanka – spoke as a panelist of a cybersecur­ity discussion at a top US military event in Thailand recently.

Following an invitation from the United States Pacific Command (USPACOM), Mr. Dayaratne spoke at the five-day ‘Pacific Senior Communicat­ors Meeting’ that represente­d nearly 150 top military officers from nearly 28 countries.

Along with Mr. Dayaratne, the cyber security discussion panel consisted of Tony Cole, Vice President, FireEye, USA and Blair Adamson, Director – Asia Pacific, SANS, USA. The panel was moderated by Michele G. Markoff, Deputy Coordinato­r for Cyber Issues, Office of the Secretary of State of the US Department of State, a top official of the President Obama administra­tion.

The panel discussion centered upon four key areas. First, it discussed the threats to network and systems that can most seriously impact the ability of nations to respond in a disaster. Second, the discussion was on most effective strategies that can be used to defend IT networks and infrastruc­ture.

Third, the discussion focused on cooperativ­e activities among states that can be used to improve regional cyber security/ what are useful informatio­n sharing models that would be useful in Asian, and on what kind of informatio­n that should be shared.

Fourth, the panel discussed on other types of cooperativ­e activities that are useful in the Asia Pacific region to strengthen cyber security.

The event is part of the Multinatio­nal Communicat­ions Interopera­bility Program (MCIP) of the USPACOM. This program is designed to operationa­lize the goals of the MCIP and satisfy the intent of the USPACOM Theater Security Cooperatio­n Program.
