CICRA’s Boshan cyber security panelist at top US military event
Boshan Dayaratne, Director/CEO of CICRA Consultancies (Pvt) Ltd – the premier cyber security training and consultancy provider of Sri Lanka – spoke as a panelist of a cybersecurity discussion at a top US military event in Thailand recently.
Following an invitation from the United States Pacific Command (USPACOM), Mr. Dayaratne spoke at the five-day ‘Pacific Senior Communicators Meeting’ that represented nearly 150 top military officers from nearly 28 countries.
Along with Mr. Dayaratne, the cyber security discussion panel consisted of Tony Cole, Vice President, FireEye, USA and Blair Adamson, Director – Asia Pacific, SANS, USA. The panel was moderated by Michele G. Markoff, Deputy Coordinator for Cyber Issues, Office of the Secretary of State of the US Department of State, a top official of the President Obama administration.
The panel discussion centered upon four key areas. First, it discussed the threats to network and systems that can most seriously impact the ability of nations to respond in a disaster. Second, the discussion was on most effective strategies that can be used to defend IT networks and infrastructure.
Third, the discussion focused on cooperative activities among states that can be used to improve regional cyber security/ what are useful information sharing models that would be useful in Asian, and on what kind of information that should be shared.
Fourth, the panel discussed on other types of cooperative activities that are useful in the Asia Pacific region to strengthen cyber security.
The event is part of the Multinational Communications Interoperability Program (MCIP) of the USPACOM. This program is designed to operationalize the goals of the MCIP and satisfy the intent of the USPACOM Theater Security Cooperation Program.
