Mercury’s University of London revision programme in popular demand

-

Mercury Institute of Management one of the leading Institutes providing quality professional education for many prestigious qualifications amongst them being the University of London ( UOL) degree, has successfully completed their first year for the degree, which turned out to be a huge success with a large number of students from various institutions joining in on the programme. Those who enrolled benefited from both comprehensive syllabus and past paper coverage alongside effective exam technique.

Courses offered for the programme include BSc in Accounting and Finance, BSc in Management, BSc in Economics and Finance, BSc in Banking and Finance, BSc in Business and BSc in Economics and Management. The courses can lead to careers in management consulting, commercial banking, financial economist, investment banking and financial management. UOL has been ranked among the top four UK institutions alongside Cambridge, Oxford and Imperial and is ranked in the QS 2012/ 13 World University Rankings

According to Shaan Jayasekera Head of Academic Learning at Mercury, “a notable achievement for Mercury in the last academic year was the special revision programme it conducted. The programme was created as a result of requests from external students reading for their degrees with the University of London at other tuition providers. We are proud to note that all these students passed with flying colours. Thus we have decided yet again to offer a similar programme in this Academic period.”

Commenting further on the Revision program, Jayasekera stated “Subjects such as Financial Management, Corporate Finance, Banking and Finance and Investment management are technical in nature and in my 10 years of lec- turing on the UOL programme, I have found that relying purely on study guides published by the University of London is insufficient. Practising past papers is essential as a lot of important areas which are examined are not covered in the study texts. In our revision we not only cover past papers over 5 examination diets as a minimum but also focus on important syllabus theory areas that are frequently examined. We also focus on important examination techniques that help student’s secure high marks at examinations.”

Amongst their renowned panel of lecturers for the revision programme is Jeewanthi Malagala, a senior lecturer at the Institute specializing in the Economics related modules. She is a Graduate from the University of London, obtaining first class honors and also achieved the second highest in the world for the module Introduction to Economics. Ms. Malagala is currently employed as an Investment Officer at a leading insurance provider and is an associate member of CIMA, CGMA and has completed the CFA examination. ONCE

She has also completed a ‘ study week’ at the London School of Economics (LSE) where she gained valuable insights into examination techniques by the examin- ers themselves. This places her in a position of advantage to share these experiences with her students on the revision programme. “There is also a change in the examination structure and the paper structure from the next examination diet. It is therefore important for students sitting their examinations to practice sufficient questions in this new structure. I will be focusing on these in the revision programme alongside significant syllabus areas students in my experience struggle with “stated Malagala. Dilshad Jiffery another key resource person on the programme has almost 8 years lecturing experience and almost four years on the programme .Dilshad handles the subject of Introduction to Business and Management, which is a theoretical subject requiring a lot of reading . Jiffery explained that in order to secure good marks students should not only have a knowledge of theory but also a very practical outlook of actual business examples and must also understand how to structure essay type answers . He affirmed that their revision programme will be focusing on these finer skills to help student’s secure better grades.

Enrolments are now on for the Revision programme that will commence in January 2014 and will run for a total 15 weeks.
