SLABSA conducts two day coaching camp in Diyagama

Sri Lanka Amateur Baseball and Softball Association (SLABSA) conducted a two-day coaching camp targeting national team players and baseball coaches of Sri Lanka with the assistant of three international officials.

The coaching camp was held at the Japan-Sri Lanka Friendship Baseball ground in Diyagama, Homagama on Tuesday and Wednesday with top international figures in baseball Koji Goto, Watari Sumida and Sujeewa Wijenayake conducting the programmes.

Koji Goto is a well known baseball figure in Japan. He played for Yomiuri Giants and at present is engaged in baseball coaching in the USA with New York Yankees. Watari Sumida is also an experienced professional baseball coach. He is a physical training coach of a Japanese professional team 'Chunichi Dragons'. Both of them along with programme director Sujeewa Wijenayake were busy with the Sri Lankans at this two-day coaching clinic.

According to its officials, the SLABSA is organising this event with the intention of enhancing technical abilities as well as physical training abilities.

“This was a very good opportunity for all our coaches and players to sharpen up their skills. Through this prorgamme, those who underwent the training will be able to help train the younger players in Sri Lanka,” an official stated.

The programme was conducted under the guidance and leadership of President's Counsel Kalinga Indatissa, the head of SLABSA, who commenced its activities for 2014 with a comprehensive and productive coaching camp. This camp was attended by a total of 32 national team players and coaches of registered baseball clubs in Sri Lanka.
