Royal’s Randev, Akshan wreck St. Joseph’s batting

The right-arm spin and pace combinatio­n of Randev Pathirana and Akshan Gajaba of Royal wrecked St. Joseph’s batting as the duo shared nine wickets to send the home team reeling in the first session of play on day two in their Under 19 inter-school cricket encounter played at Reid Avenue.

Randev ended with impressive figures of 6 for 11 and Akshan supported with a three wicket haul to bundle out St. Joseph’s, resuming on their overnight score of 44 for 4, to a low score of 118. St. Joseph’s made to follow on with a deficit of 107 runs was making steady progress just after the lunch break with the score reading 105 for 2. The opening day’s play saw Royal taking first lease of the wicket making a modest score of 225, which came on the back of a fine knock of 81 inclusive of six boundaries and four sixes by Randev Pathirana who put on a valuable 102 runs partnershi­p for the fourth wicket with Navin Vidanapath­irana who contribute­d 40.

Exchanges were even on day two just after the lunch in the Under 19 match between S. Thomas’ and Ananda at Mt. Lavinia. Ananda resuming on their overnight score of three for no loss guided by a knock of 55 by Pasindu Isira, were 154 for 6. This was in reply to the Thomians score of 204 which they made on the opening day.

Half tons by Shanuka Dulaj and Gayan Chamara helped Prince of Wales make a bold reply of 137 for 4 at lunch on day two against Wesley at Campbell Park. Earlier in the day Wesley resuming on their overnight score of 151 for 7 added further 29 runs to end their innings at 180.

DSS were 59 for 3 at lunch on the second day’s play against Nalanda at Wijerama Mawatha. The morning session of play saw Nalanda resuming on their overnight score 126 for 5, going on to make 175.
