Police call for greater parental vigilance following schoolboy knife attack

-

Police yesterday called on parents to keep a closer watch on their children when attending school, following a vicious knife attack involving two pupils at a school in Dompe earlier this week, that left a male student seriously injured.

According to police, the victim was repeatedly stabbed with a small knife. It was revealed that the victim and the assailant, both in the Arts stream, had been involved in an earlier altercation, and this weeks attack was apparently out of revenge, police said.

The incident took place in the school’s playground that was filled with other students as well, police said.

The victim is presently being treated for three stab injuries sustained in the upper part of the body and close to the rib cage, according to senior officials at the Gampaha Hospital.

Police investigations reveal that the assailant had purchased the tiny sharp instrument from a shop in the town and had stealthily brought it into the school.

According to police, the victim, along with several others, is alleged to have intimated and assaulted the assailant on an earlier occasion, and warned him against attending school.

The suspect who was apprehended immediately after the attack, is due to be produced before the local Magistrate.

Dompe Police are conducting further investigations into the incident.
