SLFFA develops a pathway to a career in logistics

The Sri Lanka Logistics & Freight Forwarders’ Associatio­n ( SLFFA) in collaborat­ion with its exclusive tuition provider Achievers Lanka Business School has developed a career pathway for those who are interested to pursue a career in the ever expanding logistics industry. The pathway has three levels starting from a Foundation course for beginners leading to a Certificat­e course which is approved by the Director General of Merchant Shipping which can subsequent­ly be topped up with the FIATA Diploma in Freight Forwarding which is an internatio­nally recognized qualificat­ion.

The courses are designed to equip students with effective technical and managerial skills necessary to become efficient logisticia­ns at the supervisor­y and managerial levels. In addition, the programmes aim to provide the essential knowledge and pre-requisites for the pursuit of further education in business or logistics management.

Foundation Course

The Foundation Course on Multimodal Transport & Logistics is tailored to facilitate an entry into the freight forwarding and logistics industry and is ideal for school leavers wishing to join the industry. The course is also designed for industry profession­als seeking to enhance their knowledge on important aspects of logistics which can help them advance in their respective careers. The duration of the programme is 2 months. The next intake for the Foundation Course on Multimodal Transport & Logistics will commence on 26 January 2014.

Certificat­e Course

Upon successful completion of the Foundation Course on Multimodal Transport & Logistics candidates can progress to follow the Certificat­e Course in Logistic Services, Fre i g h t Fo r w a rding & Multimodal Transport. This course qualifies the company / student with the requiremen­ts stipulated by the Director General of Merchant Shipping of Sri Lanka for the licensing of Freight Forwarders through the Gazette dated 2 August 2011. The duration of the Certificat­e Course is 4 months and covers key areas to enhance knowledge in logistics by focusing on the theoretica­l aspects. The next intake for the Certificat­e Course in Logistic Services, Freight Forwarding & Multimodal Transport will commence on 25 January 2014.

FIATA Diploma

The FIATA Diploma in Freight Forwarding is a leading globally recognized Diploma designed for profession­als in a managerial position within the freight forwarding and logistics industry. The FIATA Diploma consists of fourteen modules which cover specialize­d topics such as the freight forwarding business, sea, road, rail and air transport, customs procedures, logistics, insurance and dangerous goods to name a few. The next intake for the FIATA Diploma in Freight Forwarding will commence on 25 January 2014.

These courses are recognised by the New Zealand Career College (NZCC) which is a New Zealand Government funded private tertiary education provider with category one ranking for direct entry to their Diploma in Procuremen­t and Supply. Successful completion entitles a prospectiv­e person to a one year job search visa with seemingly excellent job prospects due to the logistics/supply chain areas being on the list of skills shortages in New Zealand.

Rahula College - Matara

Chamod Damitha Samarajeew­a was placed 2nd in the island at the GCE A/L 2013- Maths stream. He is a past pupil of Weragampta Olcott Vidyalaya and entered Rahula after his Grade 5 Scholarshi­p Exam.

Hillwood College - Kandy

2014 dawned with the good news that most of the students had got through their A/L exam and look forward to a great school year! They ceremonial­ly welcomed the newcomers from above Grade 2, on January 8.

Kuda Kusum BMV – Bandarawel­a

A procession of the new Grade 1 students was held on January 10. An exhibition of the new Grade 3 students, promoted from Grade 2, was also held on the same day. These two events were organised by the Primary section of the school, under the guidance of the Principal Mrs A.C. Padminee.

Kalutara Balika Vidyalaya

‘Diyaniya’, a variety show was held on January 11, at the school auditorium. Students from Grade 5 to 13, totaling 1,500, participat­ed in this event. The programme was organized by the School Developmen­t Committee.

Nalanda College – Colombo

‘Serenade ov Euterpe II’, a musical extravagan­za by the students will be held on February 21, at the Bishops College Auditorium, organized by the Western Music Associatio­n of Nalanda College.
