Gateway opens new International School in Dehiwala
Gateway opened its newest International School today (3rd January 2014) in Hill Street, Dehiwala. The modern purpose built premises was declared open by Gateway’s Managing Director Mrs. Rohini Alles. Tiran Alles, Member of Parliament and Dr. Harsha Alles, Deputy Chairman Gateway too were present.
The new school that provides all necessary facilities such as an auditorium, swimming pool, state- of- the- art laboratories, well equipped libraries, indoor basketball and badminton courts etc., provides the ideal setting for quality teaching and learning for children. Gateway College, Dehiwala will cater to all ages from Play Group to Advanced Level. The School is to be spearheaded by Mrs. Noreen Welikala, who began her career as a graduate teacher of humanities and later served as a Principal of a leading Educational Institution in Colombo for over two decades. She brings a wealth of experience and expertise in international school education.
Dr. Harsha Alles, Deputy Chairman, Gateway mentions that the Directorate is very pleased to add another school to its network at a time when the school is excelling in both academic and co- curricular spheres. Repeating last year’s feat, this year too, Gateway has produced the highest number of Edexcel High Achiever Awards. Among Gateway’s 86 top achievers, 20 students were world prize winners.
For 3 years in a row, Gateway has had students who obtained 12 A Stars at International GCSE with Dulma Jayamanna and Jithran Ekanayake joining the list this year. The performance of the younger ones who took Primary and Lower Secondary tests in English, Mathematics and Science promises a bright future for the school. It was heartening to see the young achievers of Gateway winning five out of the six world prizes at this level.
