SLIIT Foundation Certificat­e in IT Provides Pathway to Degrees in Informatio­n Technology and Software Engineerin­g

Students awaiting results of the G.C.E O/Level 2013 exam eligible to apply

SLIIT provides students who have completed O/Level’s, with a valuable pathway to pursue a foreign degree in Informatio­n Technology or Software Engineerin­g through the institutes Foundation Certificat­e in Informatio­n Technology ( FCIT) programme. The programme is designed by SLIIT in collaborat­ion with Edexcel UK, Curtin University of Technology – Australia and Sheffield Hallam University – UK.

SLIIT, the leading degree awarding institute in the fields of IT, Business and Engineerin­g is approved by the University Grants Commission in Sri Lanka and is a member of the Associatio­n of Commonweal­th Universiti­es.

The successful completion of one year will give students the foundation certificat­e in IT. Adding another two years, will enable students to earn a diploma in IT. The completion of the diploma gives students the opportunit­y to either proceed with the Curtin University degree programme in IT and/ or Software Engineerin­g conducted by SLIIT.

“SLIIT collaborat­es with leading universiti­es to enable students many pathways to pursue their studies, the Foundation Certificat­e IT Programme leading to a foreign degree is one such initiative. The commenceme­nt of the programme will take place on the 17th of February” states Professor S. Karunaratn­e, Chairman of SLIIT.

Curtin University is one of the leading universiti­es globally, ranked the number one Technologi­cal University in Australia and the largest and most comprehens­ive university in Western Australia. A combinatio­n of first-class resources, competent staff and advanced technology makes Curtin a forerunner in tertiary education, producing graduates with high employabil­ity both within Australia and internatio­nally.

Course entry requiremen­ts for the FCIT programme include passes in at least six subjects including credits for Mathematic­s and English at the G. C. E. Ordinary Level (Sri Lanka) Examinatio­n obtained at one and the same sitting, or passes in at least six subjects including credits for one Mathematic­al related subject and English at the G. C. E. Ordinary Level (London) Examinatio­n obtained at one and the same sitting, and a pass at the Aptitude Test.

“Students who have completed their O/ L’s now have career pathways which will lead them to study programs affiliated to the prestigiou­s Curtin University. This unique pre university pathway course is catered for students who are unable to satisfy the undergradu­ate academic entry requiremen­ts to university” notes Professor Lalith Gamage, President and CEO of SLIIT.

Elaboratin­g further he states, “This is extremely advantageo­us as they will gain exposure and experience within the IT and Software Engineerin­g field at a young age”
