SLIIT Foundation Certificate in IT Provides Pathway to Degrees in Information Technology and Software Engineering
Students awaiting results of the G.C.E O/Level 2013 exam eligible to apply
SLIIT provides students who have completed O/Level’s, with a valuable pathway to pursue a foreign degree in Information Technology or Software Engineering through the institutes Foundation Certificate in Information Technology ( FCIT) programme. The programme is designed by SLIIT in collaboration with Edexcel UK, Curtin University of Technology – Australia and Sheffield Hallam University – UK.
SLIIT, the leading degree awarding institute in the fields of IT, Business and Engineering is approved by the University Grants Commission in Sri Lanka and is a member of the Association of Commonwealth Universities.
The successful completion of one year will give students the foundation certificate in IT. Adding another two years, will enable students to earn a diploma in IT. The completion of the diploma gives students the opportunity to either proceed with the Curtin University degree programme in IT and/ or Software Engineering conducted by SLIIT.
“SLIIT collaborates with leading universities to enable students many pathways to pursue their studies, the Foundation Certificate IT Programme leading to a foreign degree is one such initiative. The commencement of the programme will take place on the 17th of February” states Professor S. Karunaratne, Chairman of SLIIT.

Course entry requirements for the FCIT programme include passes in at least six subjects including credits for Mathematics and English at the G. C. E. Ordinary Level (Sri Lanka) Examination obtained at one and the same sitting, or passes in at least six subjects including credits for one Mathematical related subject and English at the G. C. E. Ordinary Level (London) Examination obtained at one and the same sitting, and a pass at the Aptitude Test.
“Students who have completed their O/ L’s now have career pathways which will lead them to study programs affiliated to the prestigious Curtin University. This unique pre university pathway course is catered for students who are unable to satisfy the undergraduate academic entry requirements to university” notes Professor Lalith Gamage, President and CEO of SLIIT.
Elaborating further he states, “This is extremely advantageous as they will gain exposure and experience within the IT and Software Engineering field at a young age”
