Nations Trust Bank recently launched a promotion for hybrid vehicles titled Nations Hybrid Bonanza where customers could avail themselves of a special lease rental, free registration, a tank of fuel worth Rs.5,000/- and discounts on insurance up to 70% for all Toyota Prius and Aqua and the Honda Fit and Vezel that are purchased from more than 35 vehicle dealers who are partners of this promotion.

Sheahan Daniel Chief Manager Leasing said "hybrid vehicles are going to be the vehicle of choice for most consumers in the future, based on their lower operational cost as well as the lower cost of ownership compared to conventionally powered vehicles. This paradigm shift has already begun and is evident in the statistics as well. For example, in 2012 on average there were around 200 hybrids registered a month, while in 2014 this has increased to around 850. The benefits of using hybrid vehicles are more far reaching than merely economic. A major contributor to green house gas emissions is transport sector. Congestion and traffic in the city just exasperates the matter. Being around 70% more efficient that conventionally powered vehicles hybrids is the solution to this. We want to be a catalyst of this change, an idea that we pioneered by launching the Green Lease way back as in 2011 as our environmental stewardship initiative. Through this promotion we have made it more enticing for customers to go in for a hybrid vehicle by not only offering a very special rental on the lease, but also augmenting customer value by adding on free registration, free fuel and very attractive discounts on insurance".

This promotion which commenced on the 1st of June will continue up to the end of August 2014. There are more than 35 dealers who are part of this promotion who are located in areas such as Kohuwala, Kurunegala, Katugastota, Matara, Kiribathgoda, Kelaniya, Negombo, Wennapuwa and Welimada covering all the major vehicle sale hubs.

Smart Switch, the latest venture by Global Resources International (Pvt) Ltd (GRIP) was launched at Park Street Mews on June 3rd, 2014 amidst a distinguished gathering. A bulb holder that could be switched ON and OFF with any universal remote control, this unique product is the first of its kind to be 100% manufactured and marketed in Sri Lanka.

Developed by the Global Resources International team under the leadership of Shiranka De Silva, Technical Engineer of GRIP, the Smart Switch is the ideal replacement for the household bulbholders that are currently used islandwide and operated with the aid of a switch panel that requires to be switched on and off by reaching for it. Able to fit any bulb be it CFL, LED or tungsten, the Smart Switch holder could be easily fixed to replace any holder and could also be used with any household electronic appliance that requires an energy level of up to 300 watts.

Featuring a distinctive design, the holder's sensor is designed to sync with the infrared, emitted by universal remotes. Smart Switch can be used with any household remote at hand to switch the bulb ON/OFF. The convenience presented through this is the defining aspect of the Smart Switch as one would be able to switch ON/OFF any bulb within a 10 metre radius, as long as there are no obstacles jamming the wavelengths, from the comfort of your chair, bed or current position without moving. Operating the Smart Switch is very easy as all what the user have to do is to point the remote control by leveling it to the bulb holder and press any button in the remote control.

The Smart Switch will soon to be available island-wide.
