Mahinda College - Galle

The College Sinhala Drama Team emerged Champions, under the Greek Category, at the All Island Drama Competitio­n 2014. They also bagged 9 other awards including Best Direction, Best Production, Best Makeup, Best Choreograp­hy, Best Stage Management, Best Stage Sets and Best Music Director, and Best Actor in another category, whilst another was placed 2nd Runner-Up for the Best Actor.

St. Johan Baptist (RC) KV - Bambukuliy­a

A Junior Prefects training programme organized by the Deputy Director of Education (Primary) was held on June 9 at the school main hall. One hundred students from 10 neighbouri­ng schools also participat­ed in this training.

Visakha Vidyalaya – Colombo 4

The School’s Buddhist Society organised a Devotional Songs programme for students and a Meditation programme for the teachers as a part of Poson Poya Day celebratio­ns at the main hall on June 10. Students from Grade 6 to 13 composed the lyrics as well as the music for the songs, for their relevant classes, and the entire class presented their song. A meditation programme for the staff was conducted by Mr Chula Liyanage from 8 am to 10 am, under the patronage of the Buddhist Channel.

Devi Balika Vidyalaya – Colombo 8

The Poson Bakthi Geetha programme was held on June 11 at the school main hall. This was organised by the College Buddhist Society with the enthusiast­ic participat­ion of all the students.

St. Anthony’s Balika Maha Vidyalaya - Colombo 3

The Prefects Induction Ceremony by the Principal, for the year 2014/2015, will be held on June 16 at the College premises.

Samudradev­i Balika Vidyalaya - Nugegoda

Four teachers who have been transferre­d after serving the school for more than 10 years, were felicitate­d at the School’s general assembly last week, with the participat­ion of students from Grade 6 to 13.

Zahira College – Colombo 10

The Annual Prize-Giving, under the patronage of Principal Trizvi Marikkar, will be held on June 18 at 2.30 pm at the Gaffoor Hall. Deputy Minister of Education, Mohan Lal Grero will be the Chief Guest, while Supreme Court Judge, Justice Saleem Marsoof P. C. will be the Guest of Honour.
