-

The Alumni of the Postgraduate Institute of Management ( PIMA) recently paid a visit to the Maharagama Cancer Hospital to meet its Director and hand over a donation on behalf of the institution. The donation was made to Dr. Kanishka Karunaratne, Director Cancer hospital , Maharagama by members of PIMA.

The proceed of the donation was generated through events held by the alumni this year, the majority coming from the Annual Ball held recently.

Under community responsibility we intended this year to make a reasonable contribution towards the good work carried out by the administration of the Maharagama Cancer Hospital.

I am especially pleased as we were able successfully generate a sum worthy of donation", said S. G. G. Rajkumar, President, Executive Committee, PIMA.

This year PIMA's focus on community service projects centered on health that began with a blood donation drive that was a welcomed by the staff, students and alumni of the Postgraduate Institute of Management.

" 97 percent of the 350,000 pints collected by the National Blood Transfusion Service annually are from voluntary non remunerated donations. As blood can be only stored for a limited time before use there is a constant need for safe blood to replenish expired stock", explained Rajkumar.

The successful inaugural blood donation was held in September 2013.
