Zahira College relaunches the Crescent Magazine

-

The Crescent magazine - the official publication of Zahira College which was started by Dr. T. B. Jayah when he was the Principal, will be relaunched on 26th June at College Premises. This is a magazine which tells about the activities of the College while recording the history. The first issue of this magazine which came to light, in June 1922 was a monthly publication at the beginning. The first number was an eight page pamphlet printed in rough demy paper and was sold at ten cents, each. Later, it became as quarterly and then annually. The last issue was in 1946, when the College commemorated her Golden Jubilee.

In the year 1949 it submerged as “Az Zahira – a yearly record and review of the activities of Zahira College, Colombo” during Dr. Aziz’s period as the College principal.

However, Crescent magazine again re appeared during the 75th Anniversary of the founding of Zahira in 1967 and after few years, there was no record of publication of the Magazine.

But the Crescent never gave up. It has emerged again after almost five decades. The editorial board which consists of the staff and the students intend to continue with this publication initially as an annual publication and continue biannually thereafter.

Professor Tuley De Silva, a distinguished old boy, is reviewing this historic edition of the magazine as “The Crescent” celebrates its 92nd birthday, this year. The magazine is priced at Rs.60.00
