Exploring young voices through ‘Xplosion 2014’

-

Xplosion 2014¸a talent show to celebrate the voices of Colombo youth, will be held on Saturday, June 28. The show, beginning 6.30pm, will be held at the New Town Hall on Green Path.

The programme is geared towards showcasing the vocal and song- writing talents of young people who are musically gifted but don’t easily find an opportunity to take their work to a public stage.

The performers at saturday’s show have been through a grueling audition process, facing examination by Suren de Kauwe, bassist for 2013 TNL Onstage champ Nathan Eardly and founder member of the Fuzz Mechanix, Shehan Rodrigo, drummer for the Fuzz Mechanix, and Amrik Dharyanani, professional drummer with an impressive track record spanning 15-20 years. Auditions for Xplosion 2014 were followed by training to hone the performers’ skills. Workshops on vocal technique and performance were conducted by Shamistha de Silva, well known cellist and music teacher for British School.

This year’s event features only singers though the organisers hope to produce the show annually, later adding different categories of performance including band.

The final show will feature a distinguished panel of wellknown singers including Chris de Alwis from Flame, Kumudini David from the Marianne Singers and Melanie Bibile and Marianne Singers who will provide feedback to the singers. Entrance is free! So come show your support at

Xplosion 2014.
