What is Royal Institute of Colombo (RIC)?

What Degrees are on offer through the Deakin Pathway Programme?

The Royal Institute of Colombo has partnered with Deakin University to offer a pathway to bachelor degree courses in Engineerin­g, Informatio­n Technology, Science and Biomedical Science. This enables students to obtain an internatio­nal perspectiv­e and industry experience as part of their degree. RIC provides state-of-the-art facilities and other resources to support students through their educationa­l experience.

The teaching – learning process, curricular and study guides will be carefully examined by Deakin University to ensure the highest academic standards. The examinatio­ns are also closely monitored and moderated by Deakin academics. Lecturers in these programmes are highly qualified profession­als and academics from various institutio­ns and universiti­es, thus their scholarly contributi­ons are invaluable.

What are the entry requiremen­ts?

A student interested in pursuing any one of the above degrees is expected to meet certain entry requiremen­ts to ensure the sustainabi­lity of Deakin standards. Thus, to enrol for the degree a student is expected to have secured 3 credit passes at GCE A/ Ls ( National curriculum) or 6 points in GCE A/Ls (British curriculum: points are determined on the Grades obtained – 5 points for a pass with Grade ‘A’, 4 for Grade ‘B’, 3 for Grade ‘C’ and 2 for Grade ‘D’).

What is meant by Foundation Year?

The foundation course provides a pathway to students who have qualified themselves in GCE O/ Ls with good grades to gain entry into the Deakin Degree programme. The course content cov- ers the modules and syllabus taught for Advanced Level such as Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Mathematic­s and IT.

Why should a student choose the Deakin Pathway programme offered at RIC?

One of the two ‘ Vi c e Chancellor­s Scholarshi­ps’ offered to Sri Lankan students by Deakin University is exclusivel­y available for RIC students, offering the best performing student 50% on Deakin University tuition fee Parents can save up to 60% of the total cost through this pathway programme The industrial training during the final year at leading Australian firms provides students with hands- on experience to the side of the internatio­nal exposure Our students are provided with extended support in the VISA process by appointed agents of Deakin University at no cost Students are entitled for post study visa upon completing their chosen degree, which in turn will entitle them to apply for the permanent residency (PR) Student seeking for financial assistance are provided with loan facilities from leading banks, tailored for our study programmes

Is there a scholarshi­p programme available at RIC?

At RIC, we only offer scholarshi­ps to high achievers at A/Ls. Students who have 3 A*s at London A/Ls or 4 A’s at Local A/Ls have been awarded with upto75% scholarshi­ps for their 1st Year of studies. Our aim in offering these scholarshi­ps is to encourage the high achievers at A/Ls and to have them continue with their outstandin­g performanc­es in the examinatio­ns they face and gain a First Class Honours degree at the final examinatio­n.
