Sapugaskanda Vishaka Balika Vidyalaya which has arisen as one of the most prestigious schools in the Gampaha District has been able to achieve its targets within the fields of education as well as in extracurricular activities since its inception on March 25, 1991 with 171 students and two teachers.

Vision – To be the centre of education producing the best students for Mother Lanka.

Mission – To provide qualitative educational experiences which are needed to form students who are well equipped with knowledge, skills and attitudes to face the challenges of the future in an ever changing world.

Today, it has become a Provincial 1AB school with 3400 students and 130 teachers. The most noteworthy feature is that it has achieved its top level targets and has reached the heights of educational and co- curricular achievements within its 23 years of existence and has become a strong rival to some of the leading girls’ schools in Sri Lanka. The reputation of Vishaka is well depicted as it is among the few provincial schools in the Western Province which admits Grade 5 scholars.

The school obtained the All Island Productivity Award and the first place in GCE ( O/ L) results in the Kelaniya Zone in 2012. The school has been able to produce district first in the Grade 5 scholarship examination with 193 marks in 2013 as well as the District first in the Art stream at the GCE ( A/ L ) Examination in 2012.

Focusing on the extracurricular activities, Sapugaskanda Vishaka Balika Vidyalaya gives the highest opportunities to students to show their colours. In this, two students of Vishaka were able to participate in the Gymnastrada Sports Festival held in Singapore in 2013. The Vishakian senior band secured third place at the All Island Brass Band Competition in the Western Province and also took the fourth place at the All Island Cadet Brass Band Orches tra Competition. Recently, the students of the aesthetic unit were able to obtain two first places at the All Island Music Competition for singing and playing instruments. Pooja Suraweera of Grade 12 obtained a silver medal for Karate representing Sri Lanka in the weight class of over 59 kg at South Asian Games 2014 held in New Delhi.

The undoubted driving force behind all these achievements is the principal of Vi s h a k a , M r s. P r i ya n t h i Samaraweera who has devoted her time and energy towards the development of the school. And also the dedication and commitment of the founder Principal D. L. Padmasheeli towards creating a fully fledged school cannot be forgotten.

The systematic and skilled management structure within the school has contributed greatly to manage and improve human, physical and time resources very efficiently and effectively.

The admirable service rendered by the academic staff of 130 teachers towards achieving the vision and mission of the school as well as the school’s goal and national goals should be respected. The actual teacher role acted by these 130 teachers as a team with the specific guidance and the leadership of the management unit is one of the salient features in achieving school goals within these 23 years. Identifying the specific skills of the academic staff, increasing the mastery level of students through teacher motivation and conflict reso- lution through participatory management are the secrets behind the fame and popularity of the school’s academic as well as non academic achievements.

Sapugaskanda Vishaka Balika Vidyalaya has been able to produce future leaders for the nation through its proper guidance and programmes of developing the leadership qualities of students. Also the contribution provided by the school community and the well-wishers in the area in the process of developing physical resources of the school is commendable. Today Vishaka Balika has become a “Community School” by the complete confidence of the community.
