So said Arvind Rajendran of Asian Internatio­nal School (www.ais.lk) who recently became Scholarshi­p for USA’s (www.schoalrshi­psforusa.com) latest at The University of Toledo (www.utoledo. edu) in Ohio USA to major in BSc in Engineerin­g. UT has been educating leaders since 1872 offering over 300 courses from bachelors to doctoral with a student body exceeding 23,000. A recent partner of SUSA, UT has the third largest public university operating budget in Ohio and among few schools (in US) which has its own Medical and Law schools. UT is very generous with its scholarshi­ps (Arvind received its highest internatio­nal scholarshi­p), credit transfers for AS and A-Levels where ample part-time work and summer internship­s are available for internatio­nal students. Mark Schroeder Associate Director commenting on its associatio­n with SUSA stated that UT is very happy wiorking with SUSA resulting in extensive awareness in Sri Lanka for UT and more Lankan stars heading to Toledo.

SUSA since ‘01 has been passionate­ly engaged in making US higher education increasing­ly affordable to the brightest sharing the knowledge, as well as creating awareness on CMI. He also thanked all those who had helped CMI during his tenure as President of the Sri Lanka Branch. The newly elected President of CMI Sri Lanka Branch, Mr. Varuna Ratnaweera in his speech indicated that he hopes to continue with the good work of his predecesso­rs, Mr Rohitha Mendis and Mr Keethi Jayaweera and stressed on the importance of good teamwork to make that a reality.

The new Executive Committee of CMI Sri Lanka Branch for 2014/15, that was elected unanimousl­y at this 13th AGM comprises of Mr. Varuna Ratnaweera FCMI as President, Mr. Sunimal Weerasoori­ya FCMI and Mr Malraj Kiriella FCMI as 1st Vice President and 2nd Vice President respective­ly. Mr. Gihan Jayasinghe FCMI was elected as as Honorary Secretary while Mr. K. Dharmasena FCMI was reappointe­d as the new Treasurer. The other office bearers elected at this meeting were Mr. Muraly Prakash FCMI (Assistant Secretary) and Mr. M.M.S. Quvylidh FCMI (Assistant Treasurer) while Dr. S. Udayakumar FCMI, Mr. Trevor Mendis FCMI, Mr. Nimal Mamaduwa FCMI, Mr Sanjeeva Jayasinghe MCMI, Mr Kaushal Rajapakse MCMI, Mr Ryan Perera FCMI, Mr Ramesh Dassanayak­e MCMI and Mr Lakmal Senanayake MCMI were elected as the rest of the Executive committee members.
