Regent Internatio­nal College launches Developmen­t Master Plan

Regent Internatio­nal College ( RIC) – Gampaha that completes the 13th year of service to the community this year; is a well equipped purpose built school with a well qualified staff. Regent teachers possess Graduate / Post Graduate and Diplomas in Teacher Training qualificat­ions. The student teacher ratio is 9: 1 which one of the lowest in the country. RIC is the first and only member of the highly respected associatio­n, The Internatio­nal Schools of Sri Lanka (TISSL) in Gampaha.

Regent Developmen­t Master Plan launched includes new and expanded facilities such as a Day care centre, Gymnasium, two Senior Science Labs, air- conditione­d 1000 seat Auditorium, Library, Etiquette training/ finishing room, Media room, and the Swimming pool viewing Gallery. The three new classroom blocks planned to be constructe­d over the next few years will accommodat­e the needs of the steadily growing student numbers.

The principal of the college Mrs. Shalini Wickramasu­riya has a BA Hon. in Economics from the University of Manchester, a Masters Degree from the University of Ester and a Masters in Education from the University of Edinburgh UK. Mrs. Wickramasu­riya has work experience in a variety of capacities within the Education Sector as a lecturer, consultant to UNICEF and has worked with several schools improving practice, system and training teachers both internatio­nally and locally. She has also been the Master Trainer for the Cambridge Diploma for Teachers. Mrs. Wickramasu­riya provides leadership to the College Vision of providing a holistic education which would fulfill the potential of each child.

In February 2014, Sri Lanka Institute of Marketing (SLIM) organized a nationwide interestin­g project designed to educate students on ‘Marketing’, and to stimulate and unleash their hidden talents. It was a unique competitio­n with over 50 schools participat­ing and Regent Internatio­nal College Gampaha emerged victorious by taking the no. 1 spot at the competitio­n.

RIC conducts classes from Nursery to Edexcel London & Local A/ L’s and the results produced by its students at London O/L and A/L examinatio­ns from 2004 to 2013 have been outstandin­g. Since its inception, each year many of its students have received the Edexcel High Achievers Awards at the Edexcel Annual Award Ceremony. Regent is also an Edexcel / British Council examinatio­n centre.

In order to pay individual attention to the students, RIC have limited the maximum number of students to 25 in a class and the well equipped Science Laboratori­es, separate Computer labs for Primary, Middle School and the Senior section and air conditione­d Library are some of the facilities made available to the students at our college.

RIC students are provided with facilities for Extra Curricular activities such as Swimming, Cricket, Basketball, Netball, Chess, Dancing and Scouting. The college has a 25 metre Swimming Pool and a Basketball Court built to internatio­nal specificat­ions and the cricketers practice in our own cricket nets within the school premises. School hire well qualified coaches to train our students in all these activities. 13 of our scouts were selected to represent Sri Lanka at an Internatio­nal Jamboree held in Thailand in 2006. This was the highest number from any school. Anjani Madugalle of Regent Internatio­nal College became the first Sri Lankan Girl Scout to win the prestigiou­s President’s Award on 17th July 2012.

The inaugural Annual Big Match played against Lyceum Internatio­nal School – Gampaha in March 2012 was won by the first eleven Cricket team of the college.

Regent Life Skills Programme is another innovation we have implemente­d at our college, in which our students are trained in areas such as Social Etiquettes, Hygiene & Use of Wash Room, First Aid, and Proper Dress Sense etc in order to make them successful members of the society. Seminars on Good Parenting are conducted regularly for the benefit of our parents.

We are the only Internatio­nal School to have a Programme to absorb the school fees up to A/L in case of the death of the sole breadwinne­r or guardian of the family.

RIC is the sole partner in Sri Lanka of the Indira Gandhi Open University in India, which is the largest university in the world, and the degrees and the MBA of which are recognized by the University Grants Commission of Sri Lanka. Thereby, RIC has ensured the progressio­n of higher education of its students and those of other schools in the country too.

Some of our past pupils have completed their undergradu­ate and postgradua­te degrees at foreign universiti­es, and at present a considerab­le number of our students are reading for their Degrees in countries such as the U K, Singapore, Russia, the U S A, Australia and China.

We maintain very high academic standards and discipline in our college, and Regent Internatio­nal College is truly a school with Internatio­nal standards where the students in and around the Gampaha district are provided with high quality English medium education.
