-

A Gold Medal winner for BSc ( Hons) Business Management by the University of Wales, at the recently held Graduation Ceremony of Imperial Institute of Higher Education (IIHE), 22 year old Erandhi Padmaperuma, as a young girl had many a dream for her future. With many choices running in her mind including becoming a doctor, a lawyer and even a singer ( even though she could barely sing) it surely would have been her aspiration of one day to be a CEO at a large corporate in Sri Lanka, that would have sparked her interest in Business Management.

Having studied at Methodist College, Colombo, Erandhi chose IIHE as her favoured higher educational institute as it provides quality international education to students. She highlighted her trust in its teaching capability saying, “IIHE has been in operation for many years in Sri Lanka, a fact which provided me with the trust that the degree would be exceptional.” And goes on to appreciate the large number of alumni holding recognized, high positions in large corporations in the country as well the convenience of having IIHE located centrally in Colombo. She also spoke of the library which provides students with a large collection of books to refer for coursework.

Erandhi believes that the support given by IIHE to its Business Management degree students in understanding the dynamics of the business environment would allow them to one day, perform well in their careers. She went on to emphasize on the importance of the compulsory BSc degree Dissertation module, which gives the students the opportunity to study in-depth, a research topic of interest.

Here is what this enthusiastic Gold Medalist, Erandhi had to say:

What have you got to say about the course you followed?

The course combines both theory and practical aspects seamlessly. Modules such as RLPS (Real Life Problem Solving) and practical assignments given in each module inculcate both teamwork and practicality to students, while the theoretical aspects are also covered and examined through exam papers. The course definitely is an enjoyable one as well due to the teamwork that is required!

How was the approach to Teaching Methodology?

The lecturing panel at IIHE are vastly qualified and experienced lecturers with industry exposure. The lecturers are dedicated and will help students in great detail. They are always ready to help the students. A learning culture is encouraged by the faculty allowing students to ask questions. Real life examples from both the Sri Lankan and International context are also given making students understand the application of theory in real life situations.

What is your ambition in life?

I want to be a role model citizen balancing and enjoying both my work and family. I also believe in giving something back to the society. We are blessed and we must always help others in need.

Who are your role models and why?

My role models are my parents. The dedication I see in them has helped me to be a dedicated individual. The guidance provided by them in all situations have given me courage to face any situation head on. I am eternally thankful to my parents for everything.

Any hobbies or activities or sports you are involved in?

I love drawing cartoons. During our free time at IIHE, I and my friends learnt to play Table Tennis at its sports room.

Your further educational expectations would be?

I am a CIMA passed finalist and wish to pursue either ACCA or Chartered Accountancy to further my financial qualifications. I also hope to pursue an MBA in the future with some work experience.

Would you recommend IIHE to other prospective students and why?

Yes. I strongly recommend IIHE as a great place for students to learn and have fun at the same time. I believe that the combination of practical and theoretical knowledge gives an individual support to shine in the corporate world.
