MCA ‘B’ DIVISION 50-OVER LEAGUE TOURNAMENT 2015 Lahiru Udara 190 – top of the pops

Last year’s Joint Winner, MAS Intimates Unichela ‘B’ suffered their first defeat in the hands of MAS Linea Aqua by 108 runs on the D&L method, in the ongoing Emerald Ceylon Tea Cup, MCA ‘B’ Division 50-Over League Tournament 2015, continued over the last weekend.

The up-set win for Linea Aqua was fashioned by their three half centurions, Pabasara Waduge (88), Dushan Vimukthi (52) and Damith Priyadarsh­ana (77), which helped them to go over the 300-runs mark (303 for 8 in 50-overs.); Unichela was struggling at 155 for 8 in 33.5 overs when bad light intervened.

Unichela ‘B’ thus completed their quota of league games with five wins, one defeat and one No-Result.

Commercial Credit and Finance ‘B’ won a double header, beating LB Finance ‘A’ by a margin of seven runs on the D&L Method and Singer ‘A’ by three wickets.

Commercial Credit’s impressive win over LB Finance was carved by Manoj Sarathchan­dra, who scored a workman like unbeaten 97 in 91 balls slamming two sixes and ten boundaries.

2013 joint winner, Textured Jersey after taking Raigam Marketing to the cleaners, scoring 345 for 4 in 50-Overs, failed to taste victory, as rain stood in their way, the match ending in a no-result.

Opening batsman, Lahiru Udara pulverized the Raigam bowling attack to the tune of 190 runs in 155 balls, inclusive of six hits over the ropes and twenty fours; Udara in the process of put on 188 runs for the second wicket with Ishan Peiris (75 runs in 68 balls with three sixes and eight to the fence.)

Raigam Marketing in reply was 62 for 1 in 11.4 overs when the rains came down to abandoned play.

In the matches played midweek John Keells ‘B’ spoilt the chances for Mobitel of advancing to the final round when they beat them by 42 runs.

For Mobitel it was a must win situation to get in to last four in group ‘A’, while for John Keells the match was of academic interest. Union Bank from the group ‘A’ and had a poor run in the tournament, crashing to their seventh successive defeat, thus ending up as the wooden-spoonists.

Kanrich Finance ‘A’ completed their league quota of matches on a winning note, beating PABC Bank by six wickets as they remained unbeaten, with five victories and two no-results. Weekend’s best bowling came from Commercial Credit ‘B’ I. Udayanga (5 for 15 Vs. Singer ‘A’) and Kanrich Finance ‘A’, Prabath Jayasuriya (5/30 Vs PABC Bank). The League stage of the tournament concluded with 56 matches being played.
